I'll the coolant leak returned last night. It is coming from the hose that runs across the top part of the engine between the carbs. It is the lower return hose from the Radiator. It is leaking from the hose where it meets the termostat asslembly above the water pump. I'll pull the air cleaner off today so I can reclamp the hose. It looks a little loose. If I need to replace the hose and clamps, what size hose is it? Thanks guys, M |

Had a similar problem an 84 308. Turned out the water pump leaked intermittently around the seal with a spray -- not the usual noisy water pump melt down. Also caused the engine to run hot and definitely lost coolant. Replaced the pump and everything was perfect. |

You bet Matt. This way you will know where the tank level should be. |

O.k. Good thing you posted this. I was going to add tomorrow. My tank is half full right now. Considently, When I had the car serviced, Within 3 weeks the car dumped fluid. This shop always topped it off. Thanks again for the info magoo. M |

Magoo, I found the hose and there was fresh coolant in there so I suspect you are dead on the money. Hans, I will bleed today and let you know on Sunday. I really did not want to cancel tomorrow, but work always gets the way of having a good time. I'll bring my tools on sunday so you can pull my car apart. Or put it back together. It is a ferrari afterall. Justin, My air conditioner is a whatever temp is outside and to drive really fast. When I get it fixed next spring, I'll make a note of your suggestion. Thanks Guys! M |

Matt: My car would occasionally puke a little fluid until I bled the system. This was just after I had the system flushed and refilled. I parked the car with the right front corner a couple of feet above the bottom of the car, and cracked the radiator valve open a bit with the engine running. Air/gas/water vapor vented, closed valve, no problem since. PS - Is this why you cancelled? <jk> |

Matt, I do not know what ferrari you have but I used to get puddles of water under my car near the passenger seat. THE WATER WAS COMING FROM THE A/C UNIT. If the fan on the air conditioning unit is not fully on or has been running but slowly then the radiator slighlty freezes up and after a while when the car is stood, the ice on the radiator of the A/C melts truning to water. Regards, Justin |

Matt. I have a 79 308 GTS. On the RH side, pass. side, there is the overflow hose that comes down from the expansion tank. It is located just behind the right rear wheel towards the rear of the car and should be attached to the frame. If your tank had too much coolant in it, it would have kicked out coolant until the level is where you see it now. You may not see it again. Just a thought. |

I took the car out tonight and drove it like a normal car with some sporatic high reves. I let the car sit for an hour and I check the car out. No leaking hoses and the belts were not rubbing. The car was dry as the desert. (except for the cam seal leak) No coolant. I checked some previous history on the chat to see if I can add more info. 1. I am running the original radiator cap. Seemed like that was an issue before. 2. May radiator tank is half full (or empty) 3. Possible thermostat?

I'll check tomorrow. Thanks Steve. Would the water pump exhibit this kind of erratic behavior? I thought if it was going to break or is broken, It would leak like a ship that struck a coral reef? |

Matt -- (I'll assume you're talking about a 308) there's no "overflow" valve in the RH area, but in addition to the WP possibly having a problem there are a lot of the short 38mm water hose connections between the aluminum pipes on the RH (US passenger) side that could be leaking when pressurized. Also the alternator pulley can rub on the aluminum tube so that's something to check as well. Just a thought... |

Is there an overflow relief in the area? |

Every now and then, about three times since August, There would be a puddle of coolant under the car that looks like it came from the passenger side of the engine. Water pump side. The are not factors that are constant such as outside temp (for overheating) hard driving and the such. The puddle is about 8 inches buy 12 inches. Water pump is only 9k old si what gives? Thanks for any help M |
