I had a cracked filler tube hose and cracked overfill hose. Replaced both. OK. Also decided to replace all hoses thereafter. no moe leaks.no more smells. (except with extreme top off). |

have you check the filler tube? A 23-24 year old tube will leak. Mine did. Good Year makes a replacement for $10 a foot, which will be perfect. |

The tanks should be vented via a charcoal canister - altho if 'overloaded', the canister won't contain all the vapors. On my car, the canisters are missing, and the vent is thru a long hose on the right tank. The left tank should not be vented. So..... If the smell is on right corners, your fuel filler hose may have problems. Happens often on older cars. Should be replaced if so, as it is a serious fire hazard. |

1979 308. If I take a hard fast right hand curve on a full tank of gas I will get a strong fuel smell. I am thinking that fuel is running out of a vent tube. At around a half tank or below this does not happen. Any comments? I have not looked for the problem yet. I plan to do it when I change all of the fuel lines. Just thought maybe some one else had seen this issue and already fixed it. Thanks, Dan |
