I didn't actually "check" the unit, I guess cleaning the contacts was good enough (REALLY heavy build-up of grime), doing just that worked for me. I'll take a look again at the unit, but it seems to be sealed against taking it apart.

Thanks to all for the help on my speedometer problem. Joe-I will check in with Palo Alto Speedometer. Peter- Indeed, it could be the sending unit that is at fault, and not the speedometer. Any ideas on how to check it? How many mV does it put out? Could I hook up a voltmeter and check it while driving? Steve- If it should turn out to be the speedometer, I'll certainly look into the VDO unit.

Larry if you don't want to replace it with a stock unit , VDO has a 3 3/8 dia programmable speedo that works with the 308 generator. They also have a matching Tach. Buy the way you can see the dials at night.

Are you sure its the speedometer and not the sending unit? Those often fail (Located in a harsh environment, on the transaxle right near the diff.). My speedo would be dead and driving along would wake-up, removed it and cleaned it and works fine now.

Greetings All - After a total "ground-up" restoration, my GTB is running OK, but, the speedometer is defunct. While I'm sure some on this list would consider this a blessing, I really need it. The Problem: The professional restorer claims this is an electronic ignition, (meaning an electronic pick-up), and parts are no longer available, nor can any specialist shop he has contacted repair it. Now, this is not to my liking. Any suggestions/help/prior experience that may provide leads? I'm located in Northern New England.
