60's Corvettes, now you are talking. The Corvettes I was refering to are the big bad old late '70's/ 80's style. Yes, the new Corvettes do have a Ferrariesque feel about the design, it's only when you get closer, you realize it's really chalk and cheese (if you get my drift). Give me a Ferrari any day!

We'll hug someday. I think we would get along well in person for some reason. I saw a young lady in a 60s Corvette convertible yesterday that reminded me of Dina, you don't see too many ladies driving older performance cars. New Corvettes look a lot like Ferraris, they've gone away from that drag racer basis into a more street racer look and design, which is what Ferrari has always been about. From really far away if there is a Vette coming the other way on the highway you can't tell if it's a Vette or a 360 (especially when it's yellow or red). Once it gets closer you can obviously tell, but its general width and how low it is, is very close to those typical Ferrari lines.

Last time I was in Italy , in Florence, some guys there driving MB 500SLs said that Ferraris & Lambo drivers were looked down upon as Nuveau Riche. Screw them I love my 512TR & no Grandma car like a 500SL is gonna take her place :)

All the people I know in Italy love the looks of the new corvette. Remember, corvettes are even more rare in Italy than Ferrari's here in the US.

I live in the UK (London) & there is a Corvette dealer less than 5 miles away, but you very rarely see one on the road, even in the city. These cars don't have a great reputation in the UK & are considered "flash",perhaps the drivers are put into the "gold chain" catagory.

The Ferrari has perhaps 2 groups those that admire the passion, the others just look at the price and think "flash ****".

I agree each to his own.

Oh Brett, you always take the bait ! My comment was a very general one and refers to the attitude of Italians in Italy who do not have a great respect for American Cars in general. In Europe it's the guys with Corvettes or large American SUVs who are involved in "Illegal" type business'(Girls/drugs/contraband etc). That's the image these cars evoke.

Dina do you really speak for all Italians and know that they all say you're a "dummy with more money than brains." I mean come on. I think Magoo and Peter's to each his own is the best way here. I also like the quote about the school bully and the karate kid on the other post, a very good analogy. The Corvette has a much more tough image than a Ferrari. People like Ferraris cause they're rare and passionate cars. People like Vettes cause they win races and are reliable. They both are excellent cars, but entirely different approaches to speed. Asking questions about Vettes here is like talking about Porsches, there is always gonna be a huge bias. The Ferrari is viewed more as a rich man's toy, whereas the Vette is more of a working mans sports car (most people dont realize how expensive they are becoming).

Peter, In no way was this posted to be directed at Bret. As you say to each his own. It's simply a question of how we Ferrari owners perceive it to be. Personalities have nothing to do with this question. MAGOO

Hmmm, some do as Vettes r pretty rare in europe.
I have a 68 Vette & several Ferraris. My Vette was a little rough so it was a strange experience cus people would treat me as though I were a blue collar worker, pretty strange from my usual perspective on life :)

I think the majority of responses here will be biased towards our Italian beauties. Granted there are people here with Corvettes (and Bret who is thinking of getting one for college) who have a passion for Ferrari. A question like this should be taken to the general public (because everyone here will say Ferrari). Definitely demographics will play a big part in it (the heartlands of America and here in Western Canada will be towards the home-grown machinery). You'll get responses like: "Ferrari? Damn those things are pricey and they're always in the shop..." (believe me, I've heard that on more than one occasion).

I just love my car, plain and simple. A relative of mine works for GM and drove by our place with one of the last C5 convertibles, he let me take it around the block. Wow, fast! But I'd never own one! Just can't see me having one.

Sum it all up: to each his own.

When I say ultimate desire in automobiles I mean sport cars.

This question I posted is to get response about the two cars. I feel that you will always have another car out there that is faster than yours. Is it unique? Does it have class? Do you see one on every street corner? To sum it up is it special enough for everyone to know that it is the ultimate desire in automobiles? Your comments please.
