Ed, try these links (and maybe you can download them onto your new computer):

Your timing belt system:

Your head puller (+ photos from your rebuild):

Ahhh, memories, here's an old thread of mine when I pulled the heads off of my engine. What a breeze, can't wait to do it again...

Bill, no puller for me. I just couldn't believe heads could be that stuck. I keep looking for the bolt I missed. I counted my bolts, look at the manual and parts books, counted my bolts again. I was sure the heads were going to break, but they didn't. I did open the holes up 030", never-seize the stud shafts, and atouch of sealant around the stud holes in the head gasket before putting them back on though.

There is a picture somewhere in the archives of the puller plate I made. I lost all of my pictures I have ever made and stored when my hard drive failed a couple months ago. I cannot seem to be able to find it in the Archives though.

Mark,
When you removed your head, did you use a puller plate?

Someone suggested removing the cams, so the valves are permanently closed. Crank the engine and compression will loosen. Haven't tried it first hand, so......

When I tore down my engine I spent about 7 hours on the first head, the second took 11. Good luck!

I remember Tommy Yang having a good write up on removing his v12's heads

Ed, Do you make and sell the tools? Great idea. How mucho senior?

I see the days coming when the 308's will finally have had enough and lots of heads will be frozen like the V-12's were.

Back in the days (restoration fever days) it was common for the V-12 heads to be frozen to the studs. I had V-12 (the different sized motors had different stud spacing) head removers made by a machine shop. very thick steel plate, holes to mount to the head, threaded bolts to push against the stud tops.

However, even with the head remover tool, plenty of WD-40, Heat and effort were required. The plates could not simply 'pull' the head off. Extreme care was still neccesary.

I would just start soaking the stud holes with WD-40 and then when ready *carefully* heat the head with a torch to create expansion and find a suitable place to apply upward force on one end then the other. Gently but firmly working the corrosion loose. For extremely tough problems a small hydraulic jack can be placed between the sump and the head and by *carefully* jacking up break the corrosion enough to work the head from there.

I am the one that had the tool made for the head removal. It would only fit a two valve engine but one can be fabricated for a 4 valve.

Does anyone know of or have a tool which pulls the head off a QV? I saw one once on ebay and would like to know if anyone knows of anything.
As luck would have it my head does not want to seperate easily from the block.
