Dr. I. M. Ibrahim, What year Testa did you put those wheels on. How much do you want? What is the Offset? I am still looking for a complete set for my 1985 Mondial Turbo. I might consider going the 288 route. Klick on my name, check my profile, email me. Chat later, |

I thought you could also get the interior conversion for the GTO. Personally, I would buy someone elses car. Let them sink all of their money into it and then refine what is left. Alot cheaper. |

I have a GTO front valance and bumper on my car. I had a heck of a time finding turn signals - there out of production and out of stock. One day a pair turned up on ebay, they opened at $45 but cost me over $300, so I'm not the only one that was lacking then. My guess is there are more parts you'll find the same thing with. |

I am not sure about the rest of you...but every conversion I have ever seen never quite looks right. To me the wheels on the conversion ruins it. Even the Norwood on ebay had goofy looking rims (even though I am sure it was just as fast). Can the real GTO rims even be purchased? If not (and I dont think they are available) I think its a complete waste of time. My 2 cents. |

Make that 'left of the steering wheel' of course. Not enough coffee this morning. Tim (Tiffiosi), can you please send me an email ([email protected]); I'd like to discuss this in more detail with you. Tks! |

Having tinkered with this idea, I would suggest you'd use a 328 as donor car because of the interior. The arrangement of the 3 instruments on the center console looks a lot more like on a 288. Same is true for the instruments themselves, which use red/yellow digits on the 328 as opposed to the white on a 308. Also 328 door handles are a lot closer to the GTO's than those on the 308s. The only drawback is the center console, where the 288 still uses the 308 style switches. Maybe converting a center console from an early 308 (which had the additional consoles on the right of the steering wheel as opposed to the center console) to a 328 console might be an option, but that sounds rather tricky. |

Tim, since you'll be literally replacing the whole body, I don't think it would matter much which car to use, 308 or 328. What will be the factor in choosing is the condition and price of the donor car. How far do you want to go and how much do you want to spend?... |

Tim I think there are lots of options. Most radical I have seen are the Norwood conversions which include conversion of the motor to longitudinal mounting, lengthening of the chassis etc. One was sold on eBay recently for $60,000 which I have got to believe is way less than the cost of the conversion ($90 - 100K?) There are body parts to create the look on the 308 stock chassis, as Mark highlights. In fact, I think there's a set on eBay right now for $6,500. To each his own, but I'd think carefully about the value of the "donor" car before you start, cost of the conversion and how long you'd likely keep it. I find it hard to imagine it isn't a significantly money losing task. Philip |

I'm thinking about attempting to do the fore mentioned conversion. Taking my time and doing it right. I do have access to a 288 GTO to use as a "tempplate", but was curious if anyone had attempted this in the past?? Also which model and year car would be the best to start with??? All cause I can't afford a real 288!!!!! |
