Hans, yes the P.O. put new pistons. Unfortunately they are not high compression I was going to put H.C. in but the expense and time is just too much right now, I want to drive this car!!! Magoo, I paid a very modest amount for the car and I am doing most of the labour myself with the exeption of the motor. I figure by the time I am done I will have about $25K Canadian into the car (including the price of the car), but it will be totally finished at that price. Yes, it is a labour of love. I saved this car from the scrap heap or from being parted out. Ferrari ownership is a dream come true. |

JAY, You are doing such a beautiful job and going into great detail how much will you have in the car when finished? Or is this just a labor of love no matter what it costs? |

Are those new pistons? i.e. they look perfect. I'd expect the originals to show some 'battle scars', even after a good cleanup. If so, did you bump compression? Oh, yeah. Did you (or is there a way to) upgrade valve guides? |

Syncros were good, just changed bearings. Previous owner put a relatively clean engine with a dirty tranny. So we inspected everything when we removed it to clean. Plated all the fasteners on the tranny also. Bearings were cheap. |

When you say 'freshened up the tranny', what did you do? Syncro rings and bearings? Were the parts expensive and/or hard to find? I've heard tranny work is not cheap! |

Hans, when I bought the car the engine was already out. The Previous owner had it rebuilt (yeah right). I had it opened up to make sure it was done correctly, good thing I did because I found the head was leaking and the valves needed adjusting. Also replated all the fastners while I was at it and freshened up the tranny. As you can tell from the before shots of the suspension the car had been sitting for quite a while. I'm also redoing the interior. |

Wow, Jay. That engine is impressive. Why did you tear it down? i.e. failure of some kind, or just worn out? |
