Hello All! After searching high and low, including other's suggested sources, I finally gave up and just made my own wheel nut socket tonight. I took a .500" thick by 4/5" dia. piece of tool steel that had a 3" hole cut out of the center. I then scribed the octagon shape onto it, and using a die grinder and carbide bit, I remove as much material as possible. I then finished it up by hand using a file. I then welded another plate (same dia.) onto it, and then an old 3/4" drive socket onto that. Finally, I blasted it, painted it, and baked it. The finishing touch will be to but a couple of Ferrari stickers on it! Our tool room was going to make a gage from this piece of steel, but goofed it up and just threw it out! The 3 inch hole in the middle was perfect since this would have to be removed anyway. It took me about 4 hours to make it, and less than $10 invested. Pretty good deal I'd say. Now onto the next TR project. |

Two places to check are: http://www.baumtools.com/ http://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com/home/ If they have them, they will NOT have them on the website, you will need to call and ask. If one person who needs them could contact them and post the info as to if they have them and price. Just my suggestion. -Ben |

David, I would be interested. I assume that the '86 TR and 72 C4 are the same size. I will check. The nut on the C4 is marked "42 mm". Jim S. |

Gentlemen, If the knock-off nut size is the same as a BB (I think it's 74 or 75mm)...I've had a few made..and have all the mahine specs at a local machine shop. These sockets are very heavy duty with 3/4" drive and fit the nut ever so tightly. The 42mm size knock-off refers to the hub bearing size, not the size of the knock-off nut. Figure 2-3 week lead time...$200+ shipping. An order of 5 is the minimum...so please e-mail me privately if anyone needs one. David |

Thank You for responding guys....I think I'll draw up a socket on CAD and bribe someone in our companies toolroom to make it. There is just no way it's worth $500 bucks. A 4 inch long piece of 4" round stock, CNC mill to carve out the octagon shape to a depth of 5/8" using maybe a 1/4" cutter, and make the 3/4 square hole for the "big" torque wrench, and maybe harden it. If I dimension the part using coordinate style and allow for the the cutter bit size, the toolmaker can literally plug the numbers directly into the mill machine. I'll let everyone know if I can work things out. |

I got mine from T. Rutlands. If I remember it was fairly expensive, over $500.00. Then you need to go and get a really big torque wrench. |

Jeff - I searched far and wide at truck equipment shops. Could not find one. They are 42 millimeter. Ferrari sells a special tool - quite expensive. You can make one from a tool set by welding the octagonal section of the wrench to an existing large 3/4" socket. Cut off the long end of the tool-kit wrench after it is welded. If you find a source, let me know. Oh, by the way, you will also need to find a trained gorilla and a long lever arm to loosen or tighten the nut. Jim S. |

Truck or Tractor/Heavy Eguip. Tool Dealer. Everything that big takes a 1 inch impact/ratchet though, and reducers negate the force if you're thinking of trying something like that. |

Does anyone know where I can get a octagonal socket for my TR knockoffs? |
