AC makes some in line filters that are small canisters that fit on to the ends of gasoline tubing with clamps. Extend the tubing from the tank, clamp off the line from the tank with vise grips etc. and put one of those in line and replace it every so many miles, and throw the old one away. Better way to service it and also safer. |

FYI Internal tank filter part # 104528 Lowest quote is $160.00 Looks easy to replace actually. It looks like it is attached to the fitting on the outside of the tank. It should pull right out, minus the 4 gallons of fuel that will pour from the tank and over fill the container you thought would hold enought fluid because you thought you could just pull it out and put the new one back in but then as you are slapping the new one in you realize you need to tighten the screws and the wrench is just out of reach all the while the gas is flowing on to the driveway and the subsequent fine from the local cops for dumping fuel in to the storm drain. |

That's exactly my point, Why go through this again? If the in tank filter is that critical to have, and maybe it is, why not put a inline filter out side the tank where you can service the stupid thing without going to a major operation or blowing up the car. |

Thanks Peter, I am going this weekend to see if I can find a inline filter that could replace the internal tank. M |

Magoo, Matt is correct that it is a pre-filter for the pump. Believe me, there's lots of crap in fuel, you have to protect those delicate and expensive pumps as much as possible. Matt is correct again that a filter should be after any pump (easier to push through a restriction, rather than pulling through one). But again, you face the problem where you submit the pump to a dirty fluid. If you could find an in-line filter to splice into the fuel line before the pump, that has a similar or greater filtering surface area than the original in-tank one...

Magoo, I believe it is to filter the fuel before it goes in to the fuel pump. I agree on the overkill. It would almost make since to reroute the fuel lines to the external filter is before the pump. Matt |

I wonder each time I read about replacing one of these in tank filters, Why not eliminate it when you remove it to replace it. It goes into the other filter in the canister anyway. I can't believe that it would be that critical to remove it. If so why not put another filter ahead of the canister filter externally. Seems like a nusiance and overkill to me. |

I'll warn you Matt that the dealer may charge a fortune for that in-tank filter. I think some of the independant suppliers were just as outrageous too. I made my own, but I wish I could confirm the filter avaliable from Demon Tweeks in the UK is the right size. They sell a filter that looks SO MUCH like the one the Ferrari uses... |

I replaced B and C. I didn't know about A. Guess I need to replace that as well. I am assuming I need to drain the tank and replace the on on the inside. |

Matt, If it has a tar like substance in it that isn't good. Don't forget there is a filter at the bottom of the left gas tank just before the external filter you just replaced. Look in your owners manual on page 67. Notice it is the filter "A". |

Magoo. It is a spinner with the cartridge. It took the 2 hours to get apart. It was filled with gunk that looked like tar. Looks like it needed to get changed about 15 years ago. Fuel pump was the same way |

Matt, it sounds like a spin on but it may be the can type with a cartridge inside. If so they can be a bit-h to get off. Check around the top edge of the can and see if there are any threads. |

I currently have the fiamm filter on. I am not sure it is an OEM filter. It looks like a spinner but is a one piece unit. On the fram, the fuel lines connect from the bottom and flows out the top unlike the fiamm which flows left to right. Have you had any problems with your filter getting clogged? I had a problem with the cars fuel getting cut off. I replaced the fuel pump with a bendix and it cured the problem. |

Matt I have not changed mine over but you probably have the spin on type correct? You will probably have to make up a mount. |

Has anyone changed there fuel filter over to the fram replacement? I purchased one but I don't know how it installs. Is there a mounting bracket? it looks nothing like the Ferrari one. I triple checked the part number #3744 thanks |
