Paul, I think you're right. It has to be coming from either the filter housing that bolts down to the manifold, or the oil hose from the cooler. It's hard to see in there exactly where it's coming from. I didn't know if their were any other places it could be coming from. |

Sounds like an oil leak from the filter area. Possibly a sending unit or oil line connection. Wipe it clean around the filter adapter an run the engine while watching. There is really no other area than the filter housing that could produce this type of leak. You have 2 units and a line + the filter and a base gasket that all have the potential to leak profusely. |

John, do you mean the area of the manifolds, where they bolt down to the cylinder heads? In between each intake runner, there is the nut to bolt the manifold down and that area is like a well, collecting a trace amount of any fluid that may happen to get in there. Varnished gas does in a way look like old engine oil, usually has a sticky consistency. Normaly, its only found on the carb bodies and just covers the surface where gas fumes leak. |

The oil lays flat in the middle of the manifold under the carbs |

(78 308GTS carb) I just noticed today quite a bit of engine oil puddling on top of the intake manifold (approx. 1/16"). It wasn't there a couple of days ago. I've checked the oil filter and manifold mount, the oil sending units, the oil cooler hose coming into the block, the cam covers, and none of them are leaking. Anything I'm missing? |
