Whilst on the subject, anyone know what radio would have been fitted originally to a UK 308GTS '80 ? I know the radio was an option, but did Ferrari fit from a fixed list of certain models, or did the dealer fit whatever the customer wanted ? |

I recently put a radio in my 328(which should have the same size radio as yours). Most modern radios can be adapted to the three common configurations for most cars. I used a Kenwood 516S in mine.If you look at www.crutchfield.com you can find much information(but not necessarily the least expensive). The speakers are 5-1/4" and most will fit in the hole except for the deepest ones -- specials with 3-way and extra tweeter. Even if you wanted to use an extra deep one, you probably could space it out from the hole, since height from the panel is not a problem. Installation is a snap because the center panel is removable. Search on "Radio" to see more info -- it's been discussed before. |

Radios come in sizes like one, one and a half, and double (I can't remember the exact names, but it is that basic concept). They are sized by their faceplate size. The Ferraris is just a regular "one". I can't remember the exact speaker size, but they are a common speaker that can be had at any of those car stereo or electronics stores. Yeah it is pretty easy to install for the most part, you might have to convert the new radio to the old radio's wiring setup, but it's all manageable. |

Hi again, it's me with another request for my Ferrari-info hungry brain. My '78 308 GTS came without a radio. It apparently had one in once upon a time, but the former owner took it out and installed a blank face plate. My question is, what size radio chassis fits into the 308? Looks like a normal and relatively simple install (for someone with normal technical skills who is not me). How about the speaker situation? Any info or experiences appreciated. |
