Did anyone check the pads for the 450 SEL yet? Do they work? Are the front and rear the same on the gt/4? I am starting a brake rebuilt next week.

Im also intrested in new brake pads. I would like to go for some kind of Semi Racing pads. I think Ferodo DS 2000 will be fine in that case. DS 3000 is for racing and will wear out your rotors quickly.

Do any of you have any experience of these pads?

Ciao

try hawkbrake.com they have some pads for the 308's..
however... if memory serves, I recall a mechanic telling me years that the old mercedes 450 pads were useable in the 308's but do not know which model 450.... You may get lucky by taking a pad into a NAPA or similar and seeing if you can compare.

tried a new range from Ferodo with what they claim to be a new material withstanding up to 450 degrees C, great for track days. seems to work well, but are extremely noisy!

Has anyone tried the Kevlar pads? Do they increase stopping power.

ALL BRAKE PADS HAVE A NUMBER ASSIGNED TO THEM FROM THE FRICTION MATERIALS STANDARDS INSTITUTE IN NEW JERSEY THE PAD WILL HAVE A " D " NUMBER THAT WILL GIVE THE REFERENCE NEEDED TO IDENTIFY AS TO WHAT CARS THAT PAD WILL FIT ON. ALL PADS WILL ALSO HAVE ON THEM A LETTER IDENTIFICATION FERRARI'S NEED A GG COFECIENT OF FRICTION. THE GG COEFICENT OF FRICTION WILL HAVE A COEFFICENT BETWEEN 5.5 AND 6.5 ON THE LINK DYNO. AFTER YOU HAVE THE RIGHT D NUMBER AND THE CORRECT COEFFICENT OF FRICTION THEN YOU MUST DECIDE ON THE MATERIAL USED IN THAT PATICULAR PAD. I THINK FERRARI RECOMENDS A SEMI-MATALIC COMPOND. THIS IS A BIT MORE AGRESSIVE ON THE ROTORS BUT HAS SUPERIOR RECOVERY ON BRAKE FADE. WHICH IS A NO NO.
YOU CAN SAVE ON ROTORS BY GOING TO AN "FF"COFFICENT BUT YOU WOULD WEAR OUT PADS MORE QUICKLY AND HAVE FADE PROBLEMS. MY CAR CALLS FOR A D346 WITH A GG COEFFICENT OF FRICTION. THIS MAY BE A BIT OVER THE HEAD OF MOST AUTO ZONE BOYS BUT IN MOST PARTS OF THE COUNTRY THEIR ARE BRAKE REBUILDERS IN THE HEAVY DUTY INDUSTRY (BIG TRUCKS) WHO CAN ORDER THE PROPER PAD AND COFFECIENT OF FRICTION FOR YOU AT A FRACTION OF DEALERSHIP PRICING.

Try Porterfield http://www.porterfieldbrakes.com/ in CA -- very good pads at reasonable prices. I run them in all my Ferraris.

I've seen this before but can't confirm it does work:

You could probably pull them out of the box in the store and see.

The other alternative is you could have a good brake shop put new linings on your backing plates. Choose a "premium" lining. I've had this done for some of my other vehicles before and it usually only takes a day or two.

I've been searching the net trying to find some front and rear brake pads for my '78 308 GTB. I'd prefer to just walk into an Autozone or something and just buy a set locally. Problem is that they don't list Ferrari in their computers (at least that year). Can anyone give me a specific brand and model for suitable brake pads? If not, direct me to an online parts supplier or something? I appreciate it.
