Gary, You can purchase the rubber grommets very cheap brand new. Just go to a high performance shop and ask them to show you the grommets that they use to hold down the high performance ignition box. All manufacturers are making them. Some in varius sizes. They are very inexpensive. You will end-up replacing all of them. There are many on the 308. If you don't like what they are showing you, go on the net and check the products from different manufacturers. (moroso, edelbrock, accell, mallory). Let me know if you need help. |

GvH -- Any of the usual discount F parts suppliers will be able to supply the 308 flexible oil cooler mounts (but, as others have mentioned, if a F dealer has a rational parts pricing policy they might just be the same or less on such a fairly common replacement item). With regard to the exh. port air injection -- as mentioned in the other thread, disabling the air pump only really isn't a workable long-term strategy for the rest of the system (although that's what's done to the majority of Fs). If you're interested in some 2-valve air injection information let me know and I'll email it (I fairly sure that your '83QV still uses the same "continuous direct air injection at the exh. port" design).

I removed the belt from my pump before and after I put it back on it did make some new noises. Then it got worse. I will spin it by hand first and see how seized it is. WD-40 is also a good idea. Is the rest of the smog plumbing connected? If so, then the cats could be getting fouled up if you have been driving. I would try to get it functioning to save some of these items. |

As Edward says, If you are going to unhook the belt from the pump then mist it inside with W.D. 40 or some lube to prevent seizeing. Also just pull the outlet hose off the bottom of the pump and plug the hose. |

GARY, DO YOU MEAN THE RUBBER "bushings" on the oil cooler radiator frame?? If so then you have to. If they are $20.00 each then might as well buy them. or call one of those used parts dealors in the Hemmings Motor News magazine. You might want to put the belt on for a day or so... (So you air pump gets spun, I would sprey some oil in the air pumps inlet, to make sure it doesn't freeze up from any moisture.) Then, take it back off again. And enjoy the car.

See "Best keeped secret for a carbed 308", another thread in the Tech section, regarding the belt issue. Some complications, + and -. May be even more complicated considering that you probably have a cat conv. But you should get the general idea. Grommets? Not a clue. Anyone?? |

The belt for the air pump on my 83 308qv is missing. Is this a neccessary item or do many people leave this belt off. Also the rubber grommets (small rubber pieces with threads at each end)on the oil cooler and a few other parts, are they common or do I need to order those from Ferrari? Thanks ......... Gary |
