Both early TR "knock offs" and my 5 lugs as told to me by the wheel shop are Magnesium. They require special handling, as I'm told.

Jeff,

Your wheels are definately aluminum. Even F40 stock wheeels are aluminum. Ferrari went to magnesium with the F355.

Painting at $50 each is incredibly cheap. One dealer-owned bodyshop in the Midwest quotes $250 each to duplicate the factory painted finish, and they're good.

Powder is a great choice if your wheels are not too badly gouged.

Jeff-Everything was quoted here locally (Boise, Idaho) with the exception of the chrome which was down in Utah. I can't imagine it being cost effective for you to ship your wheels cross-country, however if you can't find any local sources I would be more than happy to provide you with their phone numbers.

Thanks Christopher for the information. I think my wheels are magnesium. Can they really chrome these? Can anyone post a picture of a set of factory wheels that have been chromed? I think the prices you have are reasonable. Can you tell me the source for this? Thanks; Jeff

Jeff-These are the prices I was quoted on my challenge wheels:

*chrome-$250 per wheel
*polish & clearcoat-$150 per wheel
*powder coating-$75 per wheel
*paint-$50 per wheel

Just FYI, I'm not sure if the Testarossa wheels are aluminum or magnesium. If they are magnesium, be very careful if you decide to have them polished. I initially had my magnesium challenge wheels polished and learned an expensive lesson--->Once polished, do not let the now "bare" magnesium wheels get exposed to water before they receive their clear coat. The water will turn the magnesium black on contact and the wheels will have to be completely re-polished!!!

Hope this helps...

At this time, I'm not willing to take out a second mortgage to pay for aftermarket wheels and tires. Can the original factory mag. wheels be polished, chromed, or spruced up in some way? If not, I would like to repaint mine. Is the silver paint anything special, and what preparation is required prior to painting? I wonder if powder coating is an option instead of just painting? This is my next course of action unless some person out there has a nice used aftermarket set of wheels for sale...which I hightly doubt.
