One final note. When reinstalling the cheese graters, it is best to pull the grill back with the rear end slightly away from the body and then fasten the screw. It is easy to reinsert the tabs at the front and have the screw pull it into place, but this increases the chances of scratching. Thanks for the help, the dried wax that has been under the fins since I bought the car is finally gone. www.ferrarichat.com is great! I used to use www.yugochat.com -- but most of their advice, no matter what the ailment, involved adding more duct tape -- and they became pretty snooty when they found out that I didn't actually have a Yugo. |

Right you are Tom Jones! Actually, I had to push the cheese grater forward (toward the front) rather than backward, but I wouldn't have tried it without understanding how it worked because it felt like something was going to break in my initial unguided attempts. I have never been able to get this area to look right, now it will be easy. TomD, I recommend trying if you've had the same difficulty with cleaning because it literally takes one minute once you know the secret -- remove one screw at top rear of the grill (the whole grill should be loose after this), then slide the grater forward as far as it will go, then gently pull on the very front of each fin to work it out of the slot (the tabs on the fins are shaped like a reverse "P" so that they lock into the slots on the body when you slide it back on installation). I am now going to wash the car with the grills off, but I will tape the exposed front fin slots because I'm not sure if any interior surfaces are exposed behind them. Thanks very much for the help -- this area has been annoying me for a long time. |

Once you remove the obvious screws, you lift the rear of the grate slightly and pull it towards the rear of the car. The front part (tips) of the fins have small pieces on the bottom side that fit into slots on the body. Pulling back slightly and then pulling outward should release them. Sometimes they are tight but can be worked out carefully. |

I am not sure this is as easy as you think - are you taking about the cheese graters? |

Sorry for the stupid question, but does anybody know how to remove the side grates on a Mondial 3.2? It gets dumber. I spent at least half an hour trying to pick the wax out of the grates before realizing that they come off with one bolt -- at least apparently -- the grate comes out but is held on by clips under the front of each fin. Do these pop out or do you slide them off or how are they removed. Pep Boys is currently out of stock of Prugna Mondial grates, so I figure it's worth getting advice from somebody who's done it before I try to force them. |
