Ok...just looked at a '77' B I have in....rear is removed same as front...you have to slice the sealant with a fine wire sealant slicing tool, or razor blade.

The louvers ...you have to drill out the rivets.

New Black Anodized rivets do exist...can't remember off the top of my head where I got the last supply...I think I remember that the anodized rivets come on all colors these days...for american/japanese street rods

Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, my rear window is not installed as described in the responses below (it has a moulding piece, and appears to be glued in very well) - has anyone had experience removing the rear window from an earlier 308 (GTB)? Mine is a '77...thanks in advance.....also, if any tips on how to remove the engine bonnet heat louvers, it would be greatly appreciated as well (currently disassembling the car for a complete paint job)....

Thanks for the responses - one last item I forgot to mention initially - is there any trick to removing the black louvers on the engine bonnet? It appears they are riveted on, with little to no access to get to them.....any tips would be greatly appreciated...thanks.......

The way the front windshields are normally done (barring serious rust) is to remove (dig away) the sealer between the body and trim and paint into the exposed area, refill with sealer after paint. The back glass normally is 1)left in place (again, unless rust is an issue)lifting the seal and placing fat wire under the rubber to keep it off the body, so fresh paint goes under the seal or 2) remove window by cutting the old rubber gaskit away and re-installing with a new rubber seal.

If the front windshield just has to come out, tools for slicing windshield sealer should be used with ultra caution. The trim is glued on with the same sealer and has to be carefully sliced loose to prevent bending and scratching.

It is a very good idea to hand over to the vast majority of body shops the stripped down car, let them prep, paint, then hand reassemble slowly, carefully and correctly. A total repaint on a Ferrari is only as outstanding as the final reassembly imo. I've never seen a really good job done when the project was productionized.

Neil, the front window moulding comes off no big deal as long as they are careful you should be ok...
The rear window can be a real if they have never done one before...
I would sure make sure that they would foot the bill for any broken glass, which is much more expensive than a simple molding.

Am in the process of getting my 77 308GTB painted (stripping to bare metal). The painter wants to remove the black flimsy windshield moulding to ensure a better job. I understand this is very costly if broken. Does anyone know how this trim is removed/salvaged for reinstallation?
Also want to remove the rear window - any tips on how that is accomplished as well? Comments will be greatly appreciated...thanks....
