Great idea on creating a loop. Nothing tried is nothing gained. You would only need the inner cable. I am up on SF from time to time. Sounds like fun. If your e-mail can handle large attachments, I can send you the parts manual and workshop manual. |

Thanks Matt: Just got back from the garage and found everything that you described. Another question. In the side of the latch, there is a drilled out opening which lines up with a set screw behind. It looks like it clamps down on the two latch cables with a hex nut. Question. If I loosen the set screw to release some extra cable for the door latch, will I release any pretension setting in the cables? Looks to be pretty slack to me... I think that there is enough additional cable to create a simple loop at the door jamb end and reconnect it to the handle. If this doesn't work, then I'll just get a new cable. BTW, the outer cable in my 308 seem to be welded in place! There are a pair of cables that are pre bent to follow the trunk cavity and are finished in black crinkle paint. How would I buy a new outer cable? Seems to me that my outer cables are OK and only need a internal cable right? Thanks again! Are you ever in the SF area Matt? We should hook up for a drive sometime. I ran into a 348 owner this weekend and we are going to try and get something on the calendar. I'll keep you posted. |

The cover starts underneath the rear 1/4 window towards the top.You are correct in your assumption. Pull the cover back to see the whole deal. |

Just behind the pull, there is a bare 1/2" hole in the door jamb. No sleeve or anything. I'll check with a flashlight tonight what's in there. Should a cable cover be in that? If so, I guess that it broke and fell into the jamb? I know that the cable broke from the end because it is still anchored to the pull. I assume it runs to the drivers side latch? Do I need to pull back the trunk cover to access the cable/cover?

It terminates at the trunk latch. If you look into it, you can see the cable. You might be able to rethread/reuse the cable if the connecter was the one that broke. The cable cover is inside the car, similar to the clutch cable cover. It is a tube the cable sits in. It the tube is bad, water moisture and the like can get in a corrode the cable. I was not sure what was meant by "just below the chrome door jamb pull" If it is at the pull handle then the cover is not necessary. If it broke in the car then I would suspect a bad cover and have it replaced. |

Thanks for the tip Matt. Where does the cable terminate in the trunk? I looked at the door jamb opening and there is a round hole there. The chrome pull has a single bolt/nut still attached to it with some form of connector on it. I assume that the cable has detached itself from this anchor. What does the cable cover look like? Thanks again. Steve |

Stephen, The cable part number is 60277001 It is $14.00 @ Dennis McCain http://www.allferrariparts.com/parts_list.cfm IF the cable cover is bad, the part number is 60024601 and it is $60.00 at Dennis McCain as well. You can also check GT car parts @ (623) 780-2200. You can feed the new cable through. It's not that tough. It took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. |

My trunk release cable snapped today just below the chrome door jamb pull today. How do I replace the cable? Where does it run to? Any help would be most appreciated! Steve |
