Thanks everybody for your tips. Unfortunately nothing helped. The fact, that both mirrors quit working makes me wonder, whether I have an electrical issue. The cable going into the control couldn't be jammed in any further, but I had some bad electrical connections on other parts (window switch), so maybe that's the culprit? I was looking for a fuse, but couldn't find any in the manual. At least I found the ellen screw, that tightened the mirrors again so they at least stand upright and no longer just dangle off the doors... |

Andreas, re:"It feels as if the gears are not connecting" That's exactly what's happening. Internal to the mirror is a miniature dual-axis rack & pinion type setup. If one of my mirrors gets pushed all the way to it's limit in either direction, the motor won't pick up the 1st gear tooth on the rack & sits there & clicks. Drove for a month this way before I disassembled the mirror to see what was wrong (nothing)... The mirror drive is designed so that it slips when the mirror is manually adjusted. So, try manually setting the mirror in it's normal position & see if the motor starts working again. --- Mine did.

I also have a "looseness" in the right mirror of my 87 Mondial. I have it adjusted all the way out to see properly. I always wondered if it was replaced with an incorrect part number (like a right-hand drive mirror). I attributed the looseness to the fact that something in the mirror to actuator linkage was broken. I'll check to see if you are right! That would be so much better to deal with! |

The clicking noise you are hearing is made whenever the mirror is at the end of its travel cycle. If they worked fine before you probably have something hooked up incorrectly at the switch. The looseness in the mirror could also be because you are at the end of the travel cycle. |

I replaced the speakers on my 308 QV. For that I had to remove the inside door covers. The left door has a cable connection for the electric mirror controls. Unplugged those and afterwards plugged them back in. But now neither mirror is working! When I select either mirror and then push on the activator switch, I hear a clicking sound from the left mirror, but no movement. It also hangs pretty loose in there. It feels as if the gears are not connecting, but I didn't touch any of that stuff. Ideas? |
