There was a long discussion on here about K&N air filters before. The knocks on them are that they can get oil on your air flow metering plate and screw it up and there are some who believe they do not filter as well as normal paper types. Also I believe there are no normal aftermarket filters for the car. Stick with factory part here. You should have a new one with the service, so you won't need one for several years at least. I use Baldwin filters. Matt's description of steering wheel angle adjustment is right. You may find the wheel hard to move at first when you try. It's probably been in one position for 15 years. Just keep wiggling and pressuring and it will move. Also, be careful not to knock any wires off the steering column while doing it. I accidentally disabled the signal lights once. Dave |

Carl, Check your local auto parts store. Not the big names... the mom and pop. They can order them for you. You need a B253 for your car. If you cannot get them. Let me know. My place can get them for $12.00 and I am sure then can drop ship. They stock them just for me. |

Carl - great thread. I didn't know the steering wheel was adjustable. Great info. Have a good [and safe] drive this weekend. |

Thanks for the advice. No Fram HP-1s for this car! Car is undergoing major service at Ferrari dealer as we speak. What is the usual brand one uses for air filter? Where's the best place to find Baldwin filters? Thanks once again,
Carl P.S. Know the license plate screws are a *little* compulsive...but the NCRS folks take points off..! |

My problem is that my knee hits the lower air conditioning vent, under the radio. Maybe moving the steering wheel a little will help. |

J. It moves a fair bit but it makes getting in and out difficult if you lower it too much. M |

I didn't know that you can adjust the steering wheel. About how much movement is there? Thanks! |

Carl -- While the Fram HP-1 will fit and probably give adequate service, it's not the typical choice. The F world has a history with these oil filter brands/PNs so they're what most of us expect to see under the bonnet (my order preference): 1. Baldwin B253 -- a decent filter at a decent price (~$10). 2. UFI 2316201 (F PN 191993) -- a decent filter at a higher (sometimes ridiculous) price ($20~$50). 3. Fram PH2804-1 -- a bit less than the first two on the internal quality/design (but still superior to the HP-1), but a decent price (~$10) and a long history with F. Do a search on some of the keywords above and you should get buried with the previous (voluminous) oil filter discussions. For the K&N fitment/purchase info see the NWR site: http://www.ferrariclub.com/faq/knfilter.html There is a bit of a debris vs flow trade-off for the K&Ns vs the more closed-media stock filters IMO, but I still run a K&N (mostly for the lower lifetime cost). Do a search on "K air filter" (AND mode) for your homework;) Rob -- can you explain why searching on "K&N" doesn't work? |

Hi Carl, 1. Can't help with the screws. 2. I use a balwin oil filter. Fram has some production issues. Not sure about a UPN, I think you mean UFI. UFI's are good as well. For Air I use a K&N 3. Remove the cover under the steering wheel. Use a wrench and a socket to loosen the bolt. Angle the wheel and retighten the wheel. Replace the cover. BTY - replace the engine oil every 1500 miles for the first 5500 to make sure the gunk from the PO is out. unless you have the service records. |

Hi again everyone, Haven't even recieved my car yet & already working on it. A few technical 328 questions (forgive me for such details, I'm from the land of BG midyears) * What are the proper license plate screws as shipped from the factory for US-spec cars? Currently has small phillips head w/integral washer x4. * What air/oil filters do folks usually use when self-servicing? I found a Fram HP-1 at my local Autozone and no listing for the air filter. Would it be wise (when required) to find UPN oil filter & purchase air filter from dealer? I have had good reccomendations on K&N? * I understand there is a method for changing the steering column angle on the 328 requiring loosening and repositioning attachment under dash...specifics? Thanks once again. You guys are an invaluable resource.
