I agree ther is more to it than an adjustment. The valve is sunk. It sounds like it is recessing up into the pocket or seat causing the clearance to close up. If you can get someone with a borescope, they can look at the valve through the plug hole and tell you exactly what the problem is before you damage something. |

If there is a power loss due to a exhaust valve being open it would show up on a compression test. |

My question would be- "why is the valve out of adjustment?" The adjustment is a very positive procedure, if the clearance is wrong either someone mucked up or something broke or.... Not enough info here. |

I would say you would lose more than 1/8th as the other 7 cylinders would have to work harder from the drag caused by the bad cylinder. |

If you have a valve that is so out of adjustment by normal running that it is holding the valve open, you have bigger problems than an adjustment will cure. If you loose one cylinder on an 8 cylinder engine I would say 1/8th of your power is lost. |

My 1985 308 QV appears to have a problematic exhaust vavlue that needs to be corrected. I am told that a simple vavle adjustment will correct the situation. This was the loss in power I was experiencing when I posted on the board last month. My question is how much of a power loss is the car experiencing with the current problem? Will there be a significant increase in power when I get the car back from the shop? TIA. Ken |
