My 308 is bone stock. The ANSA is Aluminum/silver with a high gloss. The rest of the engine compartment is regular black paint somewhere between flat and semi gloss.

Matt/All What was the right color for the ANSA unit anyway? Aluminum/silver or black? Tone: matt/satin/gloss? Finish: flat or wrinkle? Philip |

Hi Steve, Have been using "Bill Herndon's" (in Hemmings) high-temp exhaust paint on my Chevrolet manifolds for years. Very durable, neeeds touch-up approximately every two years (inexpensive & available in several colors). Only paint I've ever found that truly lasts. Good luck, Carl |

If you don't mind the shipping, you can find a lot of useful stuff at Frost's Auto Restoration (UK based) Wrinkle paint, hi-temperature paint in various colours, lots of specialist stuff and you can order on line www.frost.co.uk |

Steve I also have a 77 with an ANSA muffler. Have tried 2 types of heat resistant paint. Both flaked/burned off in the same area you describe within a short period. Sorry, no answer, just a shared problem Philip |

Satin is the closest sheen to what seems to be original. Can't seem to find it anywhere except specialty Auto shops though (Performance Improvements in TO) |

Has anyone found a black wrinkle high temp. paint for your mufflers.I've got Ansa (I think) mufflers and have a an oval area about 4"x8" near the center that needs paint. There are no grills or shields on the 77 so as you know you see the whole muffler.Suggestions please. |

I used a spray can of paint called black satin. Its used alot for bumper impact strips. Its not quite flat as the name implies. I like it. The engine bay would probably look good in it too. Come to think of it, its probably correct for the bumpers at least. |

I have used rustoleum barbeque paint on the muffler cover...it has held up well...eventually I plan on sending it out to get blasted and powder coated... |

For what it's worth: I used flat black paint, some brush on, some rattle can, depending on the location. So far it is holding up nicely. Looks like the previous owner(s) did the same. Once in a while some new place some black paint chips off and I just repaint it. No big deal. Used the special red wrinkle paint on the plenum (?), then drove it a bit to have it heat 'wrapped'. Worked great too. |
