Update: Took to shop to have complete electrical system check done. Regulator is bad but so is battery, turns out to have a shorted cell. Less than 1 year old, but my fault - I never properly secured the battery and banging around loose eventually caused cell damage..... I also had an intermitant probelm with engine hesitation/bucking/cylinder loss (but not a whole bank...)that felt more like a fuel delivery problem than Digiplex to me. They looked into that and sure enough my fuse box finally did the 308 melt down...question: Fuse box was fine a few months ago when I checked it, cleaned it and re-fused it - think an over-charging electrical system could have caused fuse box issue? |

Mark, I definetly would change the reg.. Then try the battery to see if it still holds a charge. |

Magoo - might be too late! The battery cap had come off and I thought I had evaporation issue, but over-charge seems more likely! |

Mark, I think you are right. The regulator is probably bad. Be careful you can "cook" the battery. |

I'd check for a bad connection, possible grounding problem. Good luck. Henry |

Check the output from the alternator, mine was doing the same thing put a voltmeter on the battery at 1000 rpm 12.5v at 3000 18.8v should never be over 14v or so. Had it rebuilt and all is well. |

82 308 GTSi: headlights will dim and brighten sporadically, reving engine will brighten them but then they dim again as if severe voltage drop. I also have a relay that clicks at about 3,000 RPM but not at higher RPMs. Battery charges fine; all relays and fuses have been replaced, fuse box fine and all wiring harnesses have been cleaned and Stabilant-22'd. Cibie' quartz halogen lights with standard 35w bulbs. Voltage regulator starting to go bad? 34k miles .....
