After getting a polite refusal from many body shops to fix my valance panel, I went to an unusual source. Across from where I work is a metal fabrication business, a small mom & pop shop. I tool the panel to them and left it for a couple of days. Talked to them today and they said "no problem" on fixing it! The end portions of the panel are perfect, it's just the middle 60% that needs a lot of work. To avoid fillers as much as possible, they are gonna make a new center section complete with all the holes and lips, flanges, etc. They will then made recessed seams at each end and tig weld it up. Lastly he said he will "spank" in some lead in the seam, no bondo. Then I can take it to a paint shop. I feel very lucky to get this done locally, there really isn't an alternative, you can't ship the darn thing anywhere! I just wanted to share this with everyone. I welcome any comments or advice. It goes to show that with a little patience, and not giving up, that things can usually be worked out. I am definately and "island" in my area in having this car. Nothing is off-the-shelf, and nobody has any experience. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew in buying a TR! |
