Don,

My 328 did this and I simply replaced the two latches along with a small amount of rubber dressing and it totally stopped all of the noises. The latches pulled the top down tight and it was fine from then on.

silicone spray and talcum powder are probably not compatible. Try one or the other....I prefer the silicone spray...

Thank you all. I will try the lubricating/talcom powder first before I resort to the seal replacement. Thanks for the help. Don

Another possible temp solution may be to install strips of thin sticky-backed felt on the front and rear sections of the targa top which are bare and which come into contact with the front and rear seals. I've used this stuff on a couple of fiberglass kit cars and it makes for a nice quiet and tight fit. You can buy 12" x 12" squares of the stuff at craft or fabric shops. I don't know if it will make the top too tight for latching, but I think it might work as it's very thin. Good luck--let me know if you try it.

Stu, You are correct on replacing the seals. GT Car Parts has the best prices on seals. The one that goes from the drivers door across the targa top and down to the pass. door is around 100 bucks. 623-780-2200

The quick fix is to buy a can of silicone spray lube (any will do, but I like CRC). Spray all the gaskets on the front and back portion (with the top off) and while you are at it, you can spray the gaskets on the doors, trunk and engine compartment. I do this one or twice a year on both my cars and am surprised how quiet it make things. I don't think this is good to get on the paint, so wipe up overspray quickly, and I take the extra precaution of washing the car after. I learned this from reading the shop manual for my old Volkswagen Rabbit in college, and it recommended this with each service.

The only way to completely eliminate the squeaks and creaks is to replace the seals. It's not that expensive to do and once done - it's not only super tight and leak free - no squeaks! Only drawback...it's a lot harder to get the top fastened down!

Also some silicone paste on the pins where they go into the front windshield crossbar.

Hi. My last question tonite I promise. My targa top creaks and squeaks when I drive the car. Is there some adjustment or lubrication which can easily take care of this? Thoughts would be appreciated. Don
