Hmmm, i always thought the proper way to close the rear engine bonnet was to lower bonnet to just above contact points, then (carefully) use heel of hand(s) at contact point on one side at a time, then lean into bonnet slowly to apply sufficient pressure to close latch. No dents, never had a problem(on 328).

I used to have a '79 308 that had a noticeable dent/depression in the middle of the bonnet where some idiot(s) had tried to close it like it was a Chevy hood(from previous owner).

Also, usually have to eyeball auto techs when opening/closing(say, during yearly inspection) to do it correctly.

Magoo,
I thought is was kind of high compared to other brands, at least double

I didn't get the special Glasurit hardner which was $150.00 or the reducer also around $100.00 stuff adds up for a pint of touch up

They gave me a 4 color chips to look at each was a different tint, I looked at them outside etc couldn't really tell a difference and I really doubt the guy mixing the color was blending the tints in the exact amounts to get the exact shade on the chips , matches exact on my car though

Jeff, That's not a bad price for a pint of auto paint especially if it is red. The price of a pint of acrylic red lacquer averages about 60 to $65.00.

I recently bought a pint of Glasurit 600 for my 328,the tinting also depends on the paint used that day, there are 4 different tints of 600 also, a pint cost me $50.00

Carl, I hate to burst your bubble but you car is almost 15 years old, which means 15 years of fading...
The original paint code will give you the color your car was 15 years ago, not what color it is today.
If you want the touch-up paint to match your car as it is today, then you need to have a multi-angle reading taken from your car.
Most bodyshops, or even some O'Riely auto parts stores have pro paint sections, and can then computer match your paint perfectly.
If you don't really care how close a match the touch-up paint is, then just order from the paint code on your car.

I tried paintscratch.com and found that the match was not perfect. My paint code is 300/6 also. Maybe I should have sent them a tiny chip from an inconspicuous location for a better match.

Carl, thanks for the CD and the article!

I shut my rear bonnet from the 6-8" position but use the heel of my hands to firmly push. I found that pressure on both sides necessary to secure both latches. Obviously pressure on the edge and no fingers or you will have dents(which occur just inside the edge...)

You should be able to check the color at www.paintscratch.com

Time for me to step right up & put on the dunce hat...

With the rear bonnet raised it's right at eye level. On *close* inspection, sure enough, Glasurit 300/9. And if 300/6 is "bright red" is 300/9 "brighter red"?

Hmmm V "accenting" it with yellow touch-up..hadn't considered that...(smile)

Next question while we're in the area: I have been told the proper way to shut the rear decklid is by sharply pushing down from 6-8" up while removing hands - supposedly to prevent distorting the edge.
Truth, rumor, or outright lie? (smile again)

Appreciate tolerance of my ignorance (& cheesy sense of humor),
Carl

Carl - on my car it's under the rear engine bonnet on the right side [about 1 foot from the right side of the bonnet]. It's a sticker [and mine is peeling on one side a bit - so it's possible that it may have jumped off at some point.

Not sure if it's in a different place on the '88 models - but mine does have the little chassis number label under the front bonnet in the same place.

I know this doesn't help any - but the 328 Yellow is Giallo FER102.................V

Carl, Those stickers are adhesive back and with the engine heat can fall off over the years.

Hi once again,

Trying to find the paint code on my 1988 328 (6/88) for proper touch-up match. Unfortunately no label under the front hood(where owner's manual describes)nor rear engine bonnet. Car hasn't been resprayed or in accident (actually small label with chassis # is in lower LH corner of front). I have been told 300/6 is likely. Perhaps this car was built on a Monday. Any thoughts?

Thanks yet once again,
Carl
