When my parking brake cable broke, I cut the eyes of the ends and BRAZED them on to new cable. You'll have most success with brazing (Silver solder is too finiky with contamination, parts have to be super clean and fusion welding won't work with the dissimilar metals of the cable and the eye)

My '88 TR's rear hood release just broke last week. I disconnected the eye, with no cable attached. The fraid ends where seen when I pulled the wire through the other end. The cable is about 2 inches longer than necessary. This will allow enough cable to fix the problem. I intend to drill a hole down the shaft of the eye, then cut the fraid ends, and re-install the wire, afterwhich I will have to decide whether to silver solder, braze, or weld the connection. I am leaning towards brazing. The wire will then be fed from front-to-rear and I should have enough to connect at the back.

'86 TR rear hood release lever has a plastic well that holds the cable housing. Mine busted and I found a used replacement.

My problem: how do I get the female eye, which appears to be welded to the cable, through the much narrower plastic hole so that I can bolt it to the lever?

Do people thread the cable from the front? Do they snip the eye off and reattach it with some sort of adehesive or welding process?

I know it's a silly question, but any help would be appreciated.
