Jeff: I have not looked at the car's suspension to see if there is a visual difference, but I will and let you know.

Todd: I cannot post before pictures, since I did not take any of the suspension before the work. I will try to post after pictures, but it will be a while before I can do that.

Several: My car VIN number is out of the sequence of numbers given by Forza and others; do not trust those sources for that. I originally assumed it did not apply based on those sources, but just for the hell of it, I asked the Ferrari dealers, they said yes, it did apply. Call or go to any Ferrari dealer with the VIN number and they can tell you right away if it has been done.

V.Z.: My understanding is that the recall did not affect any 1989 cars, but I would check anyway, since it is essentially hassle free to check.

If you have the TSB for the 328 and look at the front suspension diagram, the newer lower wishbone has a brace in between the 2 arms

You may be able to tell by visual inspection, but the best way is review the service records. Doesn't FNA keep track of this info?

Confusing. My car [67989] is outside of the bracket from Forza but manufacture date is 10/86 - which conflicts with DOTs records? So, I'll echo Jeff's post and ask how to tell if recall was completed?

From Forza's 328 Buyer's Guide No. 15, 2/1999, the front lower suspension arm forks (Recall #146) only affected sn 60053-66711.

In late 88, the suspension geometry for US 328s was changed to provide anti-drive and zero offset for ABS braking systems.

You can get this info here:

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/Index.cfm

Since this recall affected only cars manufactured between 7/85 and 11/87, you may have to put in 1986 or 1987 model to actually see it.

Any idea if this applies to 1989 328s ? Or, possibly, serial numbers where this would/wouldn't apply ?

I believe any recall must be honored by the manufacturer no matter how old the car is.

Thought you might be interested in knowing that Ferrari is still honoring its suspension fork recall on 328's (I think its Number 146), some 15 years or so after the fact, no charge. This recall entails the replacement of the brackets where the front upper and lower a-arms connect to the chassis. They replace the original ones for larger, beefier one. Apparently, the original ones would bend and deform under hard cornering, etc. I had my original ones checked and they were fine, but I wanted to have the recall done anyway, specially if it was going to cost me nada.

Here's the story: When I bought my 328 about a year ago, I checked to see if the suspention recall had been done, and it had not. Called a couple of Ferrari dealers to find that out(Continental, who originally sold the car and Orange County, the nearest dealer at the time to me), and they both indicated that it had not been done on my car and that Ferrari was still covering the costs of doing it. You will need your VIN number for them to check it, and they can check it real time.

I had Ferrari of Orange County order the parts (they took about a month to get in), but I procrastinated in taking the car in because it's a major hassle to take a day off work to go to Orange County during the week, drop off the car and then take another day off work to go pick it up. Fortunately for me, Orange County just recently opened a dealership in San Diego. So I had the parts transfered and they did the work here (the repairs department had just opened that week, but the service people were Orange County transfers, so they knew what they were doing).

Since they were going to realign the front I had them do the rear at the same time. Glad I did, car handles better than ever.

If you have a 328 check to see if your car is subject to the recall (check with your nearest dealer) and have it done. It should be done gratis, except for alignment of the rear, which is not part of the recall. The rear alignment cost me all of $75.
