Just be certain there is no oil leak above the alternator and it should last a long time.

I too have had several Delco's rebuilt like JRV with upgraded parts and haven't had a comeback yet. Knock on wood.

I've had quite a few of the Alternators rebuilt 90-94, I was told the micro-processor internal voltage regulator was the problem in every case, my alternator shop puts in an alternate V/R that has cured every problem so far...seems there are 2 possible reg choices..one version charges fine but causes the dash light to blink faster with rpm...the alternate regulator solved that problem. I didn't think to get the details...but any good Alt Shop should be able to rebuild a 348 Alternator for $200 or less, haven't had any comebacks to date so I feel comfortable passing this info along.

good for you billy bob, having experienced guys like you around give me a much warmer feeling of F car ownership than I would have without...cheers.

I have a '91 so I know its just a matter of time for me to encounter one of the issues you seem well versed on. Its just a shame we are still getting shafted by people/companies holding documentation relating to the cars! Its about time at least some info (parts catalogues) was available as downloads, at least for the earlier cars

You can replace with a new delco or have your old delco rebuilt to the new ND spec for alternator output. You can avaoid the Ferrari deal by welding up your own brackets. It is not that difficult. It is also easy to rewire. There is no real harness issue. the connections are the same on all alt's. You may have to change a connection or two but that is it. It was kind of a dump upgrade. Personally Denso is not helpful and they suck. I tried to get information for the Denso starter and they basically blew me off and gave me a hard time. They had the info but would not release it. Super secret stuff you know. I will never deal with them. I would stick to the delco and spend your money elsewhere. Companies should know we vote with our dollars. i'll personally help anyone do their delco alt just to keep business from denso a business with zero customer support. If anyone is having problems with their denso starter I can tell you how to deal with them too. I figure if they are going to blow us off I'll show people how to go around the system. I say don't screw with Fchat people!

Installing the new wiring harness is also time consuming. My mechanic said about 8 hours for the harness. If you don't do the job yourself, this upgrade can get expensive fast. I followed John's lead and had the alternator replaced with Delco USA. OEM was Delco France.

That major cost of the whole new unit is the bracket.

Yep I just went through the pain of replacing my alternator this summer. I to just went to NAPA and bought a Delco with a life time replacement deal. I had scoured the internet looking for a NipponDenso unit and the bottom line is the upgrade was just to costly (over $1000). The delco from NAPA was $84.

So in my mind since the job of changing the alternator only takes an hour I figure it was worth spending the $900 dollars I had left over on a Tubi! :P

Ric is right here. The mounting bracket, wiring harness and belt are different.

If I remember right, the OEM update requires a bracket as well as a harness change. I don't know the ND P/N, since this was done before I bought mine, and I've never had reason to mess with it. It seems like someone else on the list attempted to get one, and didn't have much success.

If you get the P/Ns, please post them here.

What's the NipponDenso part number
for an updated 348 alternator (Not the
Ferrari Part #)?

I have the Delco Part Number 10479969
105 amp out of a 1991 and I would
like to rewire and upgrade to the ND.
