Well now we know the answer to that question, 328's can have the same A/C Hose vibration the 308's have.

Rob, You and I both have pre-89 328s so here is my experience. My ears are trained to to listen to multiple things at once (eg listening to someones heart) so I tend to notice even the littlest noises. Last year I spent 5 hours at FOW sorting these noises out. The air intake tube is a common problem but mine was ok but it is worth taking out and padding. My problem was the A/c line vibrating against the body. This runs just inside the right airscoop and can be accessed by removing the R rear wheel well and then padding this tube.

That is called a harmonic. There isn't a engine built yet that doesn't have its point of harmonic. At that point when everything is in sync. is when we notice the strange vibrations. Rob, As you know I don't have a 328 I have a 308 which I have not had the problem. The way you and Jennie are doing it is the best way, hunt and peck. Have you tried reving the engine to that rpms sitting still and see if the vibs. come in then try to locate them? Just a thought. Good luck.

DES--Chris is right--that's a classic sign of tire imbalance. In some cases, the faster rotation of the wheels at the higher speeds improves the symptoms of tire imbalance.

Hey, Chris, you know what...? You're probably right...! i never thought of that...! i got a flat about two months back and, even though i had a full size spare, it's very likely that they're not balanced... i put almost 2,000 miles on the car every month and with all the driving i do, i never once thought to have the tires rotated or anything like that... Thanks alot...!

DES, you probably have a tire out of balance. I had the same problem even though I just had the tires balanced. Took it to another shop and had them rebalanced and no vib.

Noises can travel around sometimes, making them difficult to pinpoint. 328's are noted for the air intake tube to air cleaner rubbing on the coolant pipe. Don't know if you have early or late, but the factory padded the late versions, if you have an early, pad the coolant pipe anyway where it touches the intake assembly before it wears a hole in the pipe. Then just work your way around the engine and exhaust top and bottom jiggling things and pounding with your hand (on a cool engine) until you find what has come loose. Early 308's had a vibration from where the AC hoses touched on the body work as they headed to the front, but haven't heard of this on 328's, but worth checking.

I had a vibration on my 308 in the same vague location. It was a hose in the engine compartment vibrating against the fire wall. Check your hoses and plug wires. Also, the grating on the rear deck may be coming loose

I've only started noticing it the past few months. Between 3,600 and 4,100 the car vibration rattles mystery parts all around the GTS top and back window. I call them Mystery because I can't find them. Even with Jennie in the car grabbing around we can't find it. It sounds like it's coming from the roof, or maybe the doors, or maybe the back glass, or maybe even the openable side vents.

Any ideas because that RPM range is where I like to cruise at. Above 4,200 and it starts sounding a little strained unless you're getting all the way on it.

Thanks.
