just think...if you paint it and either scratch or chip the edges you will be able to repair it easily and blend in the repair...on the other hand, the fake vinyl fiberglass is virtually impossible to repair...I still am trying to figure a way to repair two chips on the edges of my top and have it blend in correctly to the simulated vinyl gelcoat...

PJ, you can see mine by looking at my profile picture. I had it done to a SPARE roof (from a crashed QV) so I'd still have my original. I really like the look, but as a multiple-concours winner, I didn't want to make any "permanent" changes to the car.

Anyway, if you have questions about the process that haven't yet been answered, feel free to ask here or via private email.

I like the look of body-painted tops also; as Magoo points out it is a matter of personal choice. As to resale value, these cars ain't ever going to appreciate to the point where painted vs un-painted means anything. They are beautifull cars either way!

Buy a black car then you don't have to worry about it.

OK Thanks for the link, sorry I brought this up again. The photos have helped me decide that if I do find MY 308 GTS I will probably paint it body color, I think the line is much better, looks like a GTB with the lid on and beautiful open. Best of both worlds I would say. I am very impressed by the friendly and very knowledgeable chat on this site. I have watched for some months and it has helped me decide that a 308 is for me, just need find the right one at the right price now.

Damaging the resale would only depend on who is buying it. There is a lot in the archives about this same conversion.

Paul, not too long ago I posted a similar question, I'm not sure if you saw it or if you searched the archives, but here's the link...

I'm not sure how it would affect the re-sale value though. Hope this helps,

Eric

I am looking to buy a 308 or 328 GTS, but I am not keen on the black color roof, I think I would prefer it the same as body color. Has anyone ever done that? what is involved ? and what does it look like ? I don't really understand why Ferrari made it black. Would I be damaging the re-sale value if I made the change?

Paul
