Try Stat O Seals, I think they are called. They are a washer with an o ring built in. |

From now on guys can we refer to the sealing nuts as "Space Shuttle" sealing nuts (yes they use them on helicopters, F-16's and the Space Shuttle, several of my customers are Rocket Scientists and gave me the scoop), ...instead of VW sealing nuts. Then everyone will feel comfortable using them... ;-) Happy Holidays |

Thanks, gents--I was planning on trying the VW nuts as well. In my case, the gasket was replaced and some oil does seem to seep at couple of the studs. It's not bad, but I'd like it drier. |

Hi Ric Thanks, I'll have to redo my math :-) The nylon ring I was referring to was on the mating face where it meets the washer, not the locking type. Personally I doubt this helps much, the leaks genarally would come from the gasket. |

Gerrit, the plastic insert nuts are used extensively on the Ferrari, just not on the oil pan and trans pan. The DIN standards are 985 (normal) and 982 (tall). The nuts used on the oil pan are DIN 984 (standard hex nut, yellow zinc). You can buy them from Ferrari, but they are widely available in the US at stores such as Lowe's and Home Depot, and of course, metric fastener companies: http://www.fabory.com/detail.asp?id=12662&vnaam=PLASTIC%20INSERT&vnaamaf=&Highlight=1 Ferrari specifies ~6.5 lb/ft of torque (0.9 daNM) for this size of nut. |

Hi Bill 6mm bolts generally require 9 ft lbs of torque. Some people replace the nuts with VW ones that have a small circle of nylon along the mating face. (Not sure of the VW part number, it might have been mentioned in another thread). |

What is the proper torque to use on the small nuts which hold on the engine and tranny belly pans? I'm getting some leaking through some of the studs and will be taking care of this problem soon. |
