Hey Steve...it was just as you said, someone had drilled two holes in the c-section. But they looked nice, the leather was tucked around the holes nice and neat, almost factory appearance. So all I had to do was remove the glove box compartment which is kind of a pain, and then I could get to the two 8mm nuts holding the "flatish" piece. Looks like this piece has been broken before as there was lots of fiberglass securing the studs. It made the piece set too high for the surrounding panels on my dash, so I carefully sanded, fitted, and sanded some more till it fit perfectly. Now to get some matching leather and fix this bugger.

Thank You Very Much Steve! I was afraid that was the way it was secured. Drilling access holes seems like a very good solution, I will investigate this more, and post my results. Again this forum is a life saver!

Jeff G. -- The flatish piece above the glovebox is held on by two nuts from underneath (there are two studs protruding from the bottom of the flatish piece). Unfortunately the whole dash carcass has to be removed to access those nuts (unless someone has previously drilled some access holes in the lower plane of the "C" channel section). In this picture you can see the two mounting holes in the top of the dash carcass (the mounting holes are in the top plane of the "C" channel section, and unfortunately the open side of the "C" channel section faces towards the front of the car):

Jeff..I do not have my car infront of me (in for it's major) but I am looking at the parts manual exploded view, and it is a seperate piece, however I do not see any screws that hold it in place. It may be cemented in place.

There is one piece of the dash on my TR that needs recovered, but I can't figure out how to remove it. It's the small rectangular piece above the glove box. I've looked in, under, and every which way I can to see how it's held in place. It appears to be "cemented" onto the dash frame, I pray that's not the case. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
