Matt got it right--take it out for a nice long 200 mile run. Then check the oil the next day. If it still shows signs of water, something is wrong enough to go get it fixed. |

Sounds very possible it's simply 'condensation' on the cap. Pretty common if the oil doesn't get hot enough to evaporate the moisture from the air in the tank, especialy this time of year. |

One thought, if you havebeendoing short runs that do not allow the oil to build enough heat to drive out the water that is a natural byproduct of combustion, this could account for the symptoms. Coolant level would drop if there was a problem in that area if it was that. It may drop slowly, so do not be fooled into a false sense os security. Keep an eye on it for a while. |

I would drain the oil and see if there is water on top of the oil you have drained. If so you have a coolant leak into the crankcase. Also you should be able to tell at that point if it is coolant which it probably would be. Just a suggestion. |

A bad headgasket with coolant leaking into your oil will turn your oil white |

I don't know, it's above the oil line, it's clear, and the coolant level is normal. but I keep on wiping it off and comes back! |

Daytona, Is it moisture or coolant? You probably know that coolant looks ugly on the dipstick, and spells trouble. Moisture is a little bit of a different deal. |

There is moisture in and around the dipstic in my 1973 Daytona. I thought is was just moisture but I don't think it is anymore. Any thought? A head gasket? I read in a ferrari book that it could be the water pump. Any experience with this? |
