Metric and Multistandard. 630-655-9009.

Located outside Chicago, they have a couple other warehouses. Ask for their catalog, it comes in a three-ring binder. It's a nice reference for all thing metric including some tools and hydraulic couplers. They have BSP, too.

Kinda like a mini McMaster for metric only fasteners.

Ps. I love McMaster-Carr, too. I could order before 10:00 AM and they'd messenger even the smallest order to me same day no extra charge.

Dave, you may want to try ths trick: Slide a short piece of Copper wire alongside the screw. It'll take up the slack, form threads on itself, without hurting the steel. I got the idea from cabinet makers, who use toothpicks in a similar scenario.
And Paul is right on. McMaster-Carr is where I find a lot of stuff. Often better than stock, yet the catalog is intended for Indrustrial use, so the prices are a lot more reasonable.

Here's a couple of tidbits:

Metric Fastner source: TrueValue HW stores
The local one carries a quite good selection of Metric screws/bolts/cap screws... Check the rating of what you're buying. Most of their HW is grade 8.8, but some is grade 10. Ferrari seems to have standardized on grade 10 for everything, but for most of the applications it's overkill.

Now If they'd only carry metric studs.

Try Dyeing Nylon lock nuts:
The commonly available nut has a white nylon insert. Recently I came across an automotive web site that recommended using RIT fabric dye to dye nylon & also polyurethane(wish I'd bookmarked it).
Just mix the RIT dye & boil the plastic to be dyed in it just like you would fabric. Based on this you should be able to use yellow die on the commonly available nuts.

I checked with them on the factory acorn nuts and they were out of control...something like 5 bucks each...dealer was cheaper (imagine that @1.00) the guy at newco had me on the phone for 1/2 telling me how everyone does ferrari valve adjustments Wrong and that he changes all the shims and is the only one that does it right...I think we had that debate here on the chat....anyway, you may also want to check with McMaster...they have tons of fastners.

Greg, the last time I priced something at Newco, the prices were so insanely high that I've never bothered to ever give them another look. Maybe they've changed...

I priced the M8x1.25 nylock nuts (d=13mm), and they were something like $4 EACH. The sources I list in my prior post sell the same quality nuts (the only difference is the color of the nylon), for something like $4/100. If I were looking to build a 99.5-pt concours car, I might consider them, but I was able to get the proper nylock nuts (yellow insert, yellow zinc plating) from Ferrari for <$1.

YMMV.

Thanks Ric. Every time I perform service work, I've been looking at all the fasteners to see if they should be replaced. I could use some good sources.

I looked at the NewcoProducts website and they seemed to be a good source.

Ric, could you list some of your other sources for where you've purchased fasteners for your 308/TR? Thanks.

Even with new ones I always end up painting the cross cutout part with satin black paint on a 000 modellers brush after they have been fastened, to get rid of any shiny points that the eye picks up on.

Ric, what I do when I have bolts, screws, washers, rivits, etc. that need to be black, is I put them in a "gun blueing" solution at full strength for a couple of minutes. Then I take them out and dry them. It doesn't work on stainless steel. Sometimes I have to scuff up the part to be blued with steel wool to take rust or other materials off of the part.

Works great and comes out almost black.
If you need the source for the bluing solution let me know.

BTW what ever happened to the brass exhaust nuts u were going to order for me?

I looked on their (newco's ) site and didn't see them. I will email them a picture and find out. They're typically quite expensive for what they sell.

One alternative would be to machine up some ot of black Delrin or nylon.

Cheers

Ric,
I too am looking for those things...let me know what you find...I even went to a couple wholesale auto upholstry shops here in Seattle. The bigger problem I have with my 328 is that a lot of those trim screws thread into sheet metal in the doors, and they are now stripped out, so the screws are constantly backing out. The only fix I could come up with, was to replace the bad ones with ones side larger. Unfortunately the screw heads are ever so slightly larger as well, but looks real close.

ask countachx, i think hes tied into a fastener company, at least the sign at powers fasteners near dover plains that i've driven by before would lead me to beleive that. im sure ARP makes what you want too.

Ferrari uses DIN 7983 screws throughout the interior of my TR and 308 (e.g. to hold the 308 center console to the floor, or the TR door panel to the door). These are the Phillips head self-tapping screws that are countersunk and have a raised head. I don't have a problem finding these, but what I can't find a source for is the washers they use under the head. They're a smooth, black, countersunk washer. I've found at least 5 sources that have them in a bright finish (chrome or nickel), but nobody seems to carry the black ones?

Any ideas?

As a last resort, I may take some of the bright finished ones and have them refinished, but that would be relatively expensive for 10-15 washers. :-(
