Steve, I can't imagine Stabilus giving you the cold shoulder because they gave me all the info. I wanted. Even followed up with a return phone call. But then I guess it could be who you talked to. |

Part of the response I got from Stabilus said: "Stabilus manufactures gas springs for a sister company, Sachs Automotive (can be reached at 440-871-4890 for additional forces) who will package, distribute and re-market gas springs to retailers including: Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Advance, O'Reilly, Discount Auto, Uniselect, NAPA, Auto Value, Parts Plus)." so they are really the same. (Perhaps it was a little harsh for me to say the Stabilus response was "unsatisfactory" -- I haven't tried following up with Sachs yet.) |

Stabilus is the manufacture for the orig. factory supports. I got mine through Italian Design & Racing. They have the Stabilus with the orig Ferrari silk screening on it or you can get the plain ones. Same thing except for the silk screening. Call Butch Hooper at 480-968-0421 or email [email protected] |

I was at Pep Boy's and Sachs makes replacement struts, however they would have to be special ordered. The TR is listed in the Sachs book. |

I agree with Steve; these things are a pain to change out, and even brand new shocks are marginal. This is probably related to the weight of the hood and the angle of the shock. Even after putting in new ones the hood won't stay up in the winter, warm weather and they are fine....Norm |

George -- Do you mean the front hood or the rear hood? I replaced my front hood gas springs (with stock units from T. Rutlands), but I've got to say even the new ones are quite marginal here (CO) in the winter. The RH (US passenger) side is not too bad to replace -- access via the battery cover, but the LH (US driver) side I think requires some headlight disassembly (when I did mine I had the riveted front underbody panels removed and it was still a b*tch). I even tried contacting the manufacturer (Stabilus, if I recall correctly) to see if units with a slighty higher force in the same package was available (the stock units are 330N or ~74 lbs), but I didn't get a very satisfactory reply. I think someone mentioned that they were able to get a satisfactory replacement unit at their local Auto Parts Store that just required drilling out the end holes slightly -- next winter I may try this myself if it's also a higher force unit, but I'll probably only replace the more easily accessed RH side as a first experiment. |

Looks like I am going to need hood supports for the 87TR. Anyone ever replace these or have instructions on how to replace them? Where is the best place to purchase ? |
