John: Before I did any adjustment (which I understand to be VERY tricky) I would disasemble the door cover and lubricate the door latch mechanism. I had the same problem you are having and I fixed the problem simply by lubricating the latch mechanism from the inside. I suggest you use a penetrating oil (NOT WD-40!) followed by a good quality spray grease. This is what I did, no more problems. Good luck. |

first thing you need to check is the 'striker plate' tightness and adjustment, if it's in perfect alignment & tight proceed to step 2 >then with the door open and unlocked, while kneeling down...insure with your finger that the 'door lock catch' can easily click two times and release with the handle...do this several times while checking for looseness or sticking. While there lube the 'door catch'...if the strikers become loose or the lock worn they cause the catch to only catch one latch instead of the two required (double safety catch) which prevents the button & key linkage from operating. |

John Striegel, If the lock button will not go down, that means the door is NOT securly latched. So either slam it harder, or you need to mess with the striker plate on the jam. As Jscott said, it can take some trial and error to get it right... |

I have the same problem occasionally. Use white lithium grease. I spray it in the mechanism quite liberally. Then wipe off excess. Close three or four times, problem solved. Never use WD40 on any part of your car. It will remove all grease! |

John: they are a pain to adjust, take time and patience. There are a couple of threads on this in the archives. I had the same problem. You can read about the adjustment. Can drive you crazy. But, with patience, you will get it right. |

I having an intermittent problem with my driver side door latch. Either it appears to strike something just before it hits the door jam and not close or it does close but the push button door lock won't go down by the key or by my finger. ?? |
