The tires on my 250 Coupe are 16 years old with 300 miles on them. I was going to replace them first thing when I got the car but have not found replacemnents even from Coker. The car has has 175x400 on it and Coker only makes 185x400. |

Well, the standard rule for anything rubber is 5 years, used or not. I can tell you a bought a pair of slicks that were new, no uv, from CA that were about 5 years old (the size had been out of production for 4). They looked fine, but I could not mount them...appearently geadyear makes there race tires with the bead on the bottom of the spec to keep them on the rim, speedline make there wheels withthe out bead on the upper limit, same reason, add 5 year and they don't go together. I can see a little separation betwwen tire and sidewall after attempting the mounting. |

A tire that is used regularly compared to a tire that is sitting on the shelf will stay pliable longer. Maybe a tire dealer can give you better statistics or data on shelf life. My 79 308 GTS set in a dehumidified garage for 18 years and the tires only had 5200 miles on them. They looked like new but you can be sure that was the first thing changed on the car before she hit the road. And yes they did have some microscopic cracks in the walls next to the rims, wheels. |

Has anyone information or data (rather than guesses) on the shelf-life of a New Old Stock set of tires? Assume there is no Ultraviolet exposure, and in relatively dry environment (California). How quickly does the rubber harden and crack? One year? Three years? Five years? Any reasonable offer accepted. For some of the less common tires that Ferraris may use, it is not unreasonable to assume that a tire dealer will have these sitting on their warehouse shelf for several years. Input appreciated.
