Maaco and Earl Scheib use masking tape around badges. Glad to see you want to remove it! |

Thanks for the great advice, I will try the hair dryer trick. This is a great site -- what did people do before FerrariChat? Matt, your suggestion is very funny and probably true. I just posted yesterday in response to another thread about my experience with tire valve thieves. I walked out to the car one evening and a lady in a parked car said that somebody was looking at my wheels very closely and then left as soon as he saw her. I ran for at least three minutes before I saw the SOB,I could see from behind that he was eyeing his new find in his hands and I yelled for him to give them to me. He handed them to me and ran. If I see him again, I will, on your behalf, kick him as per your specific instructions. I have now torqued down the tire valves such that it is doubtful that either Arnold S. or Janet Reno could remove them -- I keep an 11mm socket wrench in my glove box to break them loose when needed. |

Peter...just saw your post...in case you haven't successfully been able to remove the nose badge yet, just wanted to let you know that I just removed mine about a week ago. Yes, mine would not budge either on account of the adhesive backing. So, I plugged in the hair dryer and carefully heated up the badge until it became very warm to the touch, and then pushed on the studs from below and it popped free immediately. Hope this works for you. Keep us posted. |

Take it to the local mall. I am sure some punk that rips stuff off cars can tell you without blinking an eye. If he has my valve stem covers, sock him in the nuts. |

Wow, though crowd around here... Dapper, I agree that whenever you can remove a badge for repainting you should. It's just that some are harder than others. When I had my 308 redone some came off easy, but e.g. for the life of me I didn't want to take the whole trunk section apart to take the horsey off. Paint shops use tape or some liquid, that they can put onto a complex badge like that so they can simply spray over it. True that overspray occurs, but it normally is very easy to remove from plastic and enamel parts. A Ferrari is no Aztek (thank God!), true. But a 308 and perhaps even a Mondial 3.2 is not the same investment as a 360. The paint job always costs roughly the same, but the % cost of the total investment is very different. |

Gettng the adhesive hot first will usually let it release easily. Let it sit in the hot sun, or use a hair dryer to get it warm. |

3M makes a product called adhesive remover, safe for paint but will remove wax. It comes in a can with a spout, squirt some around the area and tap from the back or pry up one corner with a wooden wedge. |

I was actually going to replace the badge with a new one-- thought it would be a trival task, but I guess not -- glad I checked first. Is there any safe way to remove the two-sided tape without damaging the paint? I REALLY would like to replace the badge, but not at the risk of damaging paint. |

Peter, if you are having some paint done I applaud you for insisting on getting the badge off first. I have no time for those who paint around badges etc, do the job properly don't bodge...please! Andreas, one can ALWAYS tell that paint has been carried out around a badge or trim, you just need to look close enough and you will either see overspray, an edge, a lip or paint meniscus...period. You have a Ferrari for god sakes not a GMC Pacer |

Why do you want to remove it? When I had my 308 repainted, they just covered it up and painted the hood with it on. The little overspray came off easy with some goof off. Just my $ 0.02. |

The nose badges on my current 348 and prior 308 both have double sided tape on their underside in addition to the two threaded studs. |

OK, I know this is a stupid question, but is there any trick to removing the nose badge on a Mondial 3.2? I removed the two nuts on the back but can not remove the badge. I tried tapping on the back of the bolts as forcefully as I thought prudent and tried prying it loose from the front. Obviously, neither of these approaches work effective or I wouldn't be here embarrassing myself with this question. |
