Gary -- As I said, the mounting ears vary even in the GM family. This post list some PNs that are reported to have identical mounting for the later single air pump 308 2-valves:

I can only confirm the AirCardone PNs. If you pull up the '81 Regal per Matt L. at the NAPA site (for some of the engine options) it shows a NAPA 51207 PN so it's probably in the same family:

Steve -- I did the side-by-side comparison of my '82 308gtbi air pump with '79 Malibu 305. The air pump itself is identical with each other but the mounting is different. I ended up paying $400 dollars from Ferrari dealer which has GM marking on it. I knew that they over charged me.( an under statement ) If someone finds one that has the same mounting, please post the info. Thanks

Richard -- It's an air pump that also fits other GM applications, but the difficulty is that the PN is usually assigned by the (aftermarket) vendor who is actually making the pump and/or the store selling it so it's not that consistent store-to-store. This is getting a bit dated, but do a search on "AirCardone" (an air pump vendor) and you'll get two FChat links that have the AirCardone info and a lot of other good possible single large 308 air pump PN info from others. I'd hope ~$50 ($75 max) if you can source it at a National chain (NAPA, Checker, etc.) -- at that price I just bought a new one every 30K miles or so.

This could be it (or it's brother):
'78 Malibu 305 air pump at NAPA
but do take your air pump with you for comparison -- sometimes the mounting ears are drilled/threaded differently even within the GM family (my ex-'78 even had English threads).

It is my understanding they were all made by GM to begin with. New ones are pretty cheap. Bring the old one to part store(s) and I'm sure you will get fixed up.

I've heard they are not particularly complicated, probably worth your time to tear into it and have a look see....

What about a part number and how much should I pay for a new one.

Get the GM. It's cheap and new.

Has anyone rebuilt and smog pump for 1980 308 gtbi? Is it hard and does anyone know what I will need to accomplish to job? Is it better to buy a GM pump?
