Had the same unfortunate experience as well right after purchasing a new set of custom mats for the 308. Very hair-raising experience to say the least -- took me about 10 miles in stop and go traffic to finally figure out what the problem was. Nothing like slipping the clutch, riding the brakes, and sitting at stoplights with the engine revs at 3,000 plus at idle! Definitely got some strange looks on that ride . |

Remove or fix the floor mat before it kills you. Common cause of throttle sticking problems are floor mats. I always remove mine (or permantently attach them) for safety reasons ... after all what do they do anyway? I really hope not to see a future post about big accident due to throttle stuck in traffic ... Pete |

I remember the damn cruise control feature. I'd owned my car about 3 hours and was in the back country of Utah. Couldn't figure out why the throttle stayed so high. Friggin floor mat. |

I actually cut a notch out of the mat of my 308 to prevent it from interacting with the throttle.... |

correct me if I am wrong but the clutch really should not cause the rpms to fall, in fact all else being equal putting you foot on the clutch will allow the rpms to rise (if you keep your foot on the gas!) As others have noted this appears to be a throttle problem - if not the floor mat - check the cable from the pedel area back to the top of the engine - they have been known to stick. |

Yep, pull your floor mat back first like Jeff says. My TR does that weekly and I simply pull the floor mat back. In fact I use the mat to warm up the car by pressing throttle to 1500 rpms and sliding the mat up on the throttle to hold the rpms. |

Omar, Sounds like a sticking throttle, the cable or your floor mat is stuck under the pedal Try putting the car in 4th at about 5 mph and hit the gas after fully releasing the clutch if your rpms rise your clutch is gone if not oka |

I was driving today and it seems that when I depress the clutch the rpms do not fall...they stay right where they are.... ...sometimes it bounces up and then down so I would guess the clutch is going, but... the fact that the rpms do not fall is odd...also I do not have the 'no torque' feeling of a burnt clutch, nor do I smell the clutch either. Is the clutch gone? If so, how much do the parts alone genneraly go for? Where should I buy them? Please help...this has just added to an already bad day. |
