You may very well have a good point there on the threads. Perhaps a 12 point nut. |

I was taking them off (77GTB) with the deck lid on when I wrote that Kermit. And put them back on today. I think Ferrari/Webber used studs because the Pot Metal is Soft Enough that removing screws will wear out the threads before to long.. |

JRV, after a nights rest, ( I had justquit porting heads when I logged on), I feel my response was not in the spirit of exchange of info.My apologies. Saturday I removed the horns from a clients '79, and I was glad that I had replaced them with allen heads earlier, as it is much easier. |

No JRV, have somebody show you one and you'll see they are easily done with the deck lid on. Just look down, and there they are! |

Like Mitchell I too use a nut driver but I had to cut down the shaft on mine some where the edge of the airhorn touches it. Works great. Whenever I have to take the air filter housing off I just remove the hood. For that 5 mins. of extra work there is less aggravation. |

I find that you can just loosen the nuts a number of turns (nearly off, actually), then slightly lift the airhorn and continue. I use a 1/4" drive socket with a screwdriver handle. Oh, BTW, on a 'GT4, all the nuts are easy to reach.

>>I replace them with allen head and use a Ball End allen driver.<< Must take some kinda micro-mini allen to get the front most ones under the hood edge when removing them with the deck lid on. |

Steve, if youare refering to the bolts that clamp down the air horns to the carbs, I replace them with allen head and use a Ball End allen driver. |

I went to Sears and bought an 8mm driver. It looks like a screw driver but with an 8mm fit at the end. It goes into the nuts a tiny bit crooked but it works. And do stuff some rags down the throats. Those damn 8mm nylon nuts are not attracted to magnets. |

I like modifying/making tools rather than modifying the car whenever possible. I grind down the extension side of a shallow socket and also take a box 8 wrench, heat and bend an angle in it. Then you have 2 neat Special Ferrari Tools. |

I have a very thin wall socket for this. The last few turns I do by finger power, the nylock is not gripping by then anyway. While taking these nuts off I always cover the airhorns with nylon socking material to avoid risk of dropping anything down the throat. The covers go on whenever the air filter top is off. |

Has anyone modified their carb. air horns so you can get a 1/4" drive socke to fit instead of taking off the nuts with a wrench or making a special socket. |
