I took the advice of using a knife on the top edge and I got it. I used Honda Bond HT to seal the cover when I put it on last winter and that is what caused the problem I believe. Someone on this board told me to use that stuff...can't remember who. Anyway, thanks for the help everyone. |

I've used a screwdriver in the crevice on the higher edge so you won't cause a leak. My front cover was stuck on my 328 when I first did the valve adjustment about 10 years ago. |

Gaskets are cheap, destroy it by slicing through with a spatula or Xacto knife (heck, it'll probably get damaged if you used hammering alone). |

another option is to remove the distributor and try and tap the valvecover on the inside were the distributor is mounted. |

Another option might be the spray on gasket remover to unstick the cover. Spray it around the edges and let it sit. |

Jerry: Sounds like you really stuck it. You may have already tried this, but I use a plastic hammer, and hit it from the side, near the curve to the top. I'd use the medium size, and see if that works. If you've glued it on sooo tight it won't come off, I suspect you'll be buying a new one. If all else fails, how about thinner, etc. into the gasket area, in the hopes it will release? Art |

Did you try some plastic explosives? You can poke it through the oil fill cap and run the cord out the breather pipe at the other end. |

I have to remove my rear valve cover on my '79 308 because the one year old powder coating is peeling! Anyway I digress, I have all of the nuts and the dist. bolt off and it is just stuck big time. I don't want to wedge anything under it for fear of damaging it. I parked my forklift behind the car and put a ratchet type tie down attached to the valve cover and the fork lift and cranked it to the point where if it would have released, it would have went through the opposite wall, but still no luck. Any hints, tricks or clues would be much appreciated. Jerry. |
