After all is said and done, I finally drove my 87' Mondial Cabriolet Back from the ferrari Dealership today. Apparently the previous owner put an aftermarket clutch in it(made in England). It shattered into peices. I went OEM with the new including bearings, pilot bearings, and related parts. O' what a relief it is! There is an excellent Ferrari Shop/Dealership up in Vancouver B.C. |

Kent: Strangely the same thing happened to me on Saturday. I was shifting my 85 Mondial Cab from first to second at about 7000 rpm. The clutch pedal went softish but I could shift - once. Then the pedal went totally soft and I couldn't shift. I thought the clutch cable broke. I limped to H&H on Long Island. I was only a few miles away and Harold said he could look at the car that day. We put the car on his lift and much to my surprise found that the clutch had hydraulic actuation. We bled the clutch line even thogh the fluid level was okay but there was no improvement. Harold then measured the travel of the clutch fork and found about 25-40 mm of movement (normal according to the book)but no resistance. He then guessed that the fingers on the pressure plate may be the culprit. That means a clutch job. Not good news although the clutch is original and there are 25k on the car. I hope to learn more tomorrow after he takes a better look. I will let you know. Hopefully you will have better luck |

Possible causes (in no particular order): Clutch master failure. Clutch slave failure (typically shows as low fluid level, but not necessarily). Air in system. Dragging or seized pilot bearing. Seized clutch disc (sometimes happens on infrequently driven cars).

Thank you everyone for responding, your time is greatly appreciated. My clutch fluid level is perfect. Right between Min/Max. What else could this be. The spring mechanism above the pedals are all in place and functional. What other possibilities could arise from a shift change, I was only in 1st gear @ 6000 rpm shifting to second when clutch went out. It never made it to second, just stayed in first. Has this ever happened to anyone? |

Mondials use hydraulics. Probably a leaking slave cylinder and you have lost all your fluid. |

I still feel a moderate pressure in the clutch pedal. Forgive my ignorance but, if the clutch cable broke, shouldn't I have no pressure at the clutch pedal? |

The parts are not that expensive. A new cable (if that's the problem) is around $80- $100 depending where you get it. |

My 308 GTBi lost it's clutch cable on the westside highway in rush hour traffic on a hot summer evening. Drove it up to 125th exit, called for a tow, and ate BBQ until he arrived. No big deal. |

I am 4 months new to the Ferrari World. I picked up a 87' 3.2 Mondial Cabriolet. I've since then replaced the cat & performed a major service(timing belts, pulled injectors/cleaned, etc... The car has been in top running condition until yesterday. I took off in first gear and revved it up to about 6000. I went to shift and there was no more clutch. I pulled it over and could not get it into gear. I finally turned off the engine, lightly wiggled the shifter into reverse. I started the car in reverse and managed to maneuver my way out of the tight parking lot. Turned it off and restarted in first, lunging foward upon start. Speed shifts fine, tranny seems to be fine.Clutch isn't engaged? Did I brake something major? A cable maybe? I would dearly appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!
