JRV - yes, removing the inner wheel well panels are as easy as they look - just some screws/hex bolts. Stephen

Carl, I have respect for the cars and what's "expected" by customers when they hear the word "service". A fuel filter is part of the job, and included in the quoted price unless someone knows "for certian" it was recently done. The hours estmated for "the job" always include the incidentals like fuel filters, all fluids etc. of course.

I've always felt very privledged to work on Ferraris, and doing less than my best or less than what I'm being payed to do would make me feel ...well...:-(, like I was cheating people, the cars and myself..


I do understand however, how hard it is to find help that can/will concentrate on the bigger picture.

An engine out 30K and you don't get a new fuel filter, even though it's 14 yrs old?

Thanks everyone. I did notice those square rear "subframe" rails & also didn't think they looked like a good idea. I'll see if I can get my jackstand into the triangular frame gusset as reccomended.

Any tips on removing inner wheel well shield? Just a few screws & out it comes?

Another important question: anything else I should be inspecting while I'm in the area?
(car just had engine-out 30k done @ FoH so I would expect clutch was adjusted)

BTW, spoke with FoH service dept today regarding (earlier post) wheel lug socket: they use standard socket & avoid impact wrenches with good results.

Re the jack stand point, I'd recommend the frame where several of the major rails come together with a welded triangular plate. You'll see it between the U bracket you mentioned and the rear wheel but obviously in further and away from the rocker panel where the U bracket is. This triangular welded plate is one of the pick-up points for a regular garage lift. If your jack is low enough, you might prefer to lift it from one of the two small diameter rectangular rails that run on either side of the engine and end just in front of the lower grated engine/muffler screen where it meets the engine - not rear bumper area. You'll see what I mean if you get down and look inwards from the rear of the car, past the screen. I'll admit that these particular rails don't look substantial, but my Ferrari mechanic insists this is an ideal jacking point and it has worked great for me using a wood puck for protection. Ric, this is a timely post as I plan to do mine in the next several weeks. I would assume that the procedure for a 308QV is pretty much the same?

By the way, what does BTDT stand for?

Disconnect the battery! Start with less than 1/4 tank. Take the gas cap off to relieve any vapor pressure. Use two wrenches. One on the filter fitting and one on the fuel line fitting, otherwise you may bend the fuel line (BTDT). Due to the way the accumulator works, some fuel will spill (up to a quart), so be prepared (goggles, adequate ventilation, etc.).

Hey Carl - I'd recommend using a good tire shop and having the tire patched from the inside. Had that done to the runflats on my C5 Corvette and you can have up to 2 patchs [none on the sidewall] and retain the speed rating of the tire.

Not sure about jacking or the FI/filter but anxiously waiting to find out. Take care..............V

Hi again,

Discovered etiology of 5psi/wk left rear air loss...small nail in tire.

I found a small inverted U-shaped bracket on sill on underside of car near end of driver's door; I am presuming this is the jacking point? Plan to make a hardwood "puck" to fit internal countour so I can use my floor jack. Where is the best place to put a jack stand once I have lifted?

Then after I remove the rear wheel, any suggestions on plugging defect? (car is not driven hard enough to warrant replacing tire) Can I do this myself without dismounting tire or for proper fix is this required? If so, what should I be looking for in a tire shop to avoid damage to wheel? Unfortunately recently balanced at FoH on their race balancer using inside-only wheel weights.

Second question: fuel filter appears to be original to car (yellow paint mark on output junction threads) & at 14 years figure probably time for replacement. If I don't run the car for a week, will I still need to depressurize FI? Any tricks to this other than removing/replacing inner fender shield & (using flare nut wrenches) unthreading/rethreading fuel lines?

Apologies for such a long post. This BB is such a great resource figured I should ask before brazenly disassembling.
