Also check the coolant pipes. They can become a little "dislocated" and rub in places, such as against the gas tank and where they enter the tunnel to go forward.

Underside of destributors. Around valve covers. I wait until the thing cools off and feel with my hand. Sometimes I look into the spark plug recesses. Mine leaked there once and put a lot of oil on the exterior of a plug or two. Also, run your fingers on the bottom of the oil cooler.

You can also feel the tension on the front cambelt by running your hand down the cover toward the low center of the engine. You can even do this when the engine is hot.

I change brake fluid every year. Check coolant level. Sometimes I bleed the air from the coolant but mine does not accumulate much. Feel under the water pump for leakage. Feel/look around the short coolant hoses for leaks. Check to see if your AC lines are not chafing on body.

I'm going to start changing my own oil and want to ask what else I should inspect?

Off the top of my head here's a list to start...

- inspect all lights
- inspect windshield wipers and fluid
- tire pressures (more often than every oil change)
- inspect brake pads, rotor condition, and fluid level

I know a quick look around for leaks is good, but where exactly should you be looking?
