hey tazio, on an '81 308, removing the pulley itself can be done with a small three-jaw puller. Suggest making your life easy - unbolt the coolant tank and move it out of the way (don't need to remove the coolant lines, just the sensor wires), then remove the plastic shroud over the oil cooler (three nuts..the bottom one is in the center). You then have plenty of room to remove the ring nut and use the puller. |

Thank you all for the tips. I am just doing my homework now so I am not sure when I will tackle the project. Steve...this project is a way's off so I do not want to commit to selling the pulley unless I am sure I am taking it off first. |

BE WARY! You can actually cause the belt to jump teeth if you apply significant pressure on the ring nut at the pulley. You need to secure the cam at the other end with a proper wrench. |

Rob -- There's no "hole left behind" if you take the ring-nut and pulley off, but I think it's better to just leave the pulley (and the key under it) in place rather than having the exposed camshaft end sticking out. Since the air injection style camshaft itself is longer I don't think that you can even adapt the cover from a non-air injection 308 to fit. The other option besides a ring-nut socket from Baum is a "hook" wrench like this: Snap-on small hook wrench |

You'll need a ring-nut socket (the same size used to remove the cam drive pulley nuts) and I assume the same kind-of cam plug used when doing the single-distributor set-ups. The aluminum cap is more difficult, as there are no provisions for the studs, so... ...My pulley is still on the cam, even though I don't have the emissions junk. Saves alot from headaches. |

I am looking to find out what is involved in removing the drive pulley that is on the end of the camshaft once the upper emmisions air pump is removed on a 308. How do you get the pulley off and how do you block the hole that is left behind? |
