David, I beleive the boots don't balloon from their own weight and speed, it's the heat increasing the air pressure inside causing expansion. Just need to vent, and this really is just a race or track car issue. I know the exhaust is close, but I think street driving doesn't cause a problem. If you want to do the loose ty wrap thing, it won't hurt anything, but IMHO it also doesn't help.

The boots as from the factory have a tight seal against the axle. Just need venting.

Somewhre I saw a post where you can strategically place wire tie wraps in the creases on the boots, with no tension, just snug. This is supposed to take the stress out of the boot "ballooning" from the centrifical force and keep them from tearing/ripping.

Don't know if this really would work or not, but may be worth a try.

Do you track the car?

This shouldn't be such a problem if you only street drive. And even if you do track the car, the boots only need to be vented to atmosphere, then really only if you're hard core. The air inside blows the boots up like a balloon. Either insert a small plastic straw into the interface with the axle, or heat a piece of welding rod and melt a very small hole into the boot, near the axle, not on the outer diameter, it won't toss grease this way.

Many guys don't even know this is happening to their car as it really never causes a problem.

Replacement boot may be incorrectly installed, but that would be hard to do.

Every 10- 12k miles my axle boots rip. Dealer did factory " half shell" heat shield trick. Supposed to divert heat but boots still go after 10- 12k miles. Says only on 95 model. I'am original owner. Help!
