If you were afraid you missed out for your 308, we've had two folks "cancel" for one reason or another so two pkgs of 10 washers are available. Email me for details if you want some.

Package is on the way to me from Ric. Those of you who have already asked for washers will hear from me via email in a few days. NO new requests, please. I'm sure there won't be any extra that aren't already committed.

FYI, Ric is graciously DONATING these washers for the group! You'll only be asked to cover mailing costs. And you'll also be expected to be very nice to Ric if you happen to meet him in the future!

using part obtained from GT for '89 328, oil drain plug washer is 16 x 22 x 1.5

I also got a new plug from GT, which has an outside diameter of 25mm. Assuming this plug is OEM, that would imply that you could use anything up to 16 x 25 x 1.5 if you want more copper sandwiched in there.

I believe this plug is a standard size you can get at local auto parts stores (17mm head). The aftermarket magnetic plug I currently have on the car has a 25mm aluminum sealing washer.

Those of you who have emailed me -- you won't hear back individually until I get the package of washers from Ric and start allocating them out into envelopes for mailing. At that time, I'll email you one by one.

The 27-22mm washer is not the correct size for a 328. My dealer, Ferrari of Seattle, sent me the correct washer. I don't know the size but it is smaller than the washer for a 308.

The weather in Dallas is delightful. Springtime is here, at least for this weekend. Where do you Dallas guys want to meet me to get some of these 300 washers? You're all welcome to make the trek to Allen to see my current projects (TR, 308, 348 + a 308 engine build in progress). Of if you wish, I work at the Galleria Office Towers (M-F, 10-6). Email me at [email protected] to let me know.

OK, the washers are here, but I haven't had time to go pick them up. I had a wisdom tooth removed last week, and the !#$$*& thing turned into a dry socket, which is painful as hell. I had headaches so bad, I coudln't stand up very well. I've spent all my lunch breaks going to the surgeon to get medicated packing put in the hole. AGGRHH! :-( Well, it does stop 98% of the pain once it's in.

Anyway, I'll get them tomorrow (Thursday), assuming there are no fires at work.

The 300 oil plug washers to fit 308's should be in to Ric on Monday or Tuesday. He'll take out what's been requested by Dallas folks and will ship me the rest. So hopefully, around this coming weekend (2/1) or early next week (whenever they arrive here) I will then contact all you who have sent me your info by email and get some out to you. That will be done in the order the emails were received. When we run out, we run out, but if you were too late to get some of these 300, I'll send you a courtesy email to let you know.

OK, I've told Ric to buy 300 washers. That's going to be "it" for now as far as me counting 10 to 20 washers into separate envelops and addressing and mailing them to 15 to 20 people. It will be first come first served in the order I got EMAILS from folks. If any are left after that, I'll contact people who left messages here but did NOT send me an email with mailing address as requested.

I have a larger size plug in my oil pan, that is another story, but I have been using the fiber washers for several years now. Ric is more expert than I, so there may be some reason for the copper, but I have found that the fiber washers absorb some oil so they leak less and I feel more comfortable tightening them as they have more compression. I am paranoid about stripping out the aluminum as my first mechanic did on my oil pan.

The Mondial QV should be the same as a 308. Please put me in for $20 worth. And I'll pay whatever extra to have someone mail them to me in Alaska.

Russ -- No it hasn't clearly. I know 308's use the 22 x 27 x 1.5 size in all 5 locations:

Engine oil drain
Gearbox oil drain
Gearbox oil fill
Transfer Gear drain
Transfer Gear fill

and I'd guess that 328s also use the 22 x 27 x 1.5 size in some of the 5 positions but maybe not all positions (e.g., engine oil drain). My TR is that way (i.e., a mix of sizes), but it still uses the 22 x 27 x 1.5 size in a few positions.

If you (or anyone) get(s) a chance, please measure and post the Cu washer sizes needed for the above 5 positions on your 328.

Has it been clearly established that a 328 takes the 22-27-1.5 MM washer. As I said I have one that size for my 328 and although I have not used it yet my eyeball tells me that it is quite large compared with the size of the oid drain plug.

Guys and gals -- Thanks for the emails... I haven't responded individually, but I've saved them all and will get back to you when Ric sends me the washers that he hasn't given to his local Dallas folks out of the 200 he's going to buy. Each person will get 10 to 20 washers (that should last most of us several years) and be responsible for the actual cost of the washers (around 21 cents each) plus an allocation to cover Ric's shipping to me and the mailing cost in an envelope to each of you. I'm presuming each person's total will be somewhere near $5 to $8 if you're getting 20 washers. I'll let you know by email, and you'll be able to send me the reimbursement money by check or PayPal.

OK, Ric -- Get 200, dole out 20 each to your local (Dallas) listers, and send me the remaining. I'll take care of mailing out the 20 each to the rest of the group. I'll send you my address via email.

Ronr, anyone in Dallas is welcome to get them from me directly. We can all meet somewhere for dinner or Saturday lunch or something. Of if you guys want to come see my shop of horrors (my garage), you're welcome to come by also.

The local stock is 150 pcs, so if we go over that it takes one extra day.

Ric, if any of the other Dallas guys need some, can we just get a batch of them straight from you? I'll do 20 of them, Jerry H. might want some too. It's still unclear to me if that size fits all the 328s around here.

It's a local supplier, with which I had to establish an account. I don't think they sell to the public. Anyway, I have an order going in soon anyway, and we can just add this on.

If you buy a full box of 100 you should get a price break at Global Metrics too (but it still won't be as good as Ric R.'s source price -- last price sheet I have from Global Metrics circa 2001 shows $32 for a box of 100 of the 22x27x1.5).

With Ric's new price, the plan will be to distribute 20 washers to each participant (that should be several years' supply for most of us) unless you tell me otherwise, which with shipping etc should be in the $5 to $8 range. I'll figure the amounts once we actually get them in and all the costs/shipping figured out.

Ric, I'll handle the distribution, can you have them drop shipped to me once I give you the final quantity? That's about half the amount of Global's price to me. Are you able to get them wholesale from them or elsewhere, or do you just happen to have a local supplier that carries them?

OK, guys, we'll do it. I'll wait a few more days, make the overall order, then when it gets here I'll allocate it out. I plan to ship your quantities the cheapest way, probably just have them in a padded mailing envelope, so plan to add a small shipping cost in. Email me your mailing addresses and reminder of how much you want, to [email protected]

Quote: "if youve got a 308/328 and do you own engine/trans fluid work you might consider getting a handful of the 22 x 27 x 1.5 size from Global (they are best referred to as solid copper sealing washers to distinguish them from other non-solid copper types)."

I called Global Metrics (650-592-2722), and the washers are fifty cents each, but they have a minimum order size of $25. Any 308 folks interested in pooling together and breaking up an order of 50 or 100 washers? Or is there someone here on FChat who already deals with these folks where we can piggyback an order? Or a source where individuals can just get them in smaller quantities for $1 or less each?
