I too have had the E8 code on occasion - the heater then starts putting out cold air. Usually resets itself by turning off the car and restarting.
I have the workshop manual and it would be of absolutely no help on this. There is an exploded dash diagram but that's it. No info on how to do anything.

>>Air con plant panel showing an E8 error code...any ideas?<<

FWSM states E8 is -Electric Water Pump for Heating.

Thanks Jens, I just don't want to risk snapping off any plastic retention tangs, its always nice to know exactly where they are located.

Dave,

Actually you really dont need a workshop manual. Its really deadly easy since the centre dashboard with the AC unit is of elastic plastic. You just push it a little bit back and forth (preferably at the bottom) and it just slipps out. The screws are normal and can be removed with the screwdriver of your board equipment.
Really no big deal. If you should have a workshop manual at hands its OK as well but you really dont need one!

Con saluti cordialissimi,
Jens Haller

P.S. Before doing all this you should definitely check all other possibilities. Perhaps its even an easier thing like engine coolant level etc.

Baby delivery services as well, this site is FANTASTIC!

Jens, Looks like I'll have to get my hands on a workshop manual for guidance to all these jobs.

Dave,

In fact it is very easy to access the unit! Even for an absolute untalented person like me it was easy (Even having problems with replacing bulbs in my appartment!). The whole center unit with the fuel and oil temp display comes out by just pushing (No screws!). The AC unit is kept on the dash by I think six screws. A good mechanic can do this in less than ten minutes (OK it took me half an hour but I said a good mechanic! :-) )

Con saluti cordialissimi,
Jens Haller

P.S. What about the meeting?

Thanks Billy bob and Jens. I'll check the coolant level next time I take her out. If it would benefit from resolder I can do that, pretty dab hand at soldering so no probs. I dont suppose the unit is too easy to get to though!

Dave,

Actually I ment engine coolant. This can sometimes give common e1-8 codes. E8 is a heater water pump motor code that is realated to the coolant level. If the level is not right or cavitiates it appears as an electric heater water pump failure. Ususally, these sucky units just reset if you ignition key on and off. The circuit boards as Jes says is lame. I have resoldered the entire fusebox. It is pretty easy with the right tools.

Dave,

Had exactly the same problem! Do the things mentioned first. If the problem should occur from time to time most probably the whole AC control unit has some kind of fault.
If so do not exchange the whole unit (Costs around 750 Euro as far as I can remember) but let an electrician solder over all connections inside. This may last around one hour. If you know somebody who has a soldering iron and some knowledge in that it is easily done.
Did that with my unit and invited him to some beers at his favourite pub! The cheapest repair I ever had for my Ferrari :-)

Con saluti cordialissimi,
Jens Haller

P.S. See you are from UK! We are organizing a FChat track meeting this june at the Nürburgring. Lots of people from UK are attending, too. Perhaps you are interested as well? For more details about time and programm see my thread at the European Section! Would be great to have some more 348 guys there.

Check coolant level. Also these units suck. May reset on engine shut off and restart.

Hey guys, just took her out for a spin in the typical British weather! Anyway when putting her back into the garage I noticed the Air con plant panel showing an E8 error code...any ideas?
