Clark, read the directions I wrote for PINO...I didn't realize two different guys were possibly having the same problem.

Yes there is one recirc flap and one recirc flap motor.

JRV,

Sorry for my inexperience but I do not understand the setup here. I did not mention a fan. I am guessing you have a motor and a flap that is moved by the motor. Am I correct on that....if that is the case only 2 things can be broken, a motor or the flap. I am not sure what fan you are talking about. The recycle system does not have a fan does it? I thought it just redirected air flow hence the motor and flap set up

Clark, which motor? fan, comp, or recirc flap?

the recirc flap motor is something like $100-$200..which is expensive for a crappy little plastic motor...lol...it's held in with two little phillips screws although it's APITB to replace as it's behind the trunk liner, but can be done with some savvy without removing the liner completely and a very stubby screw driver. now the fan motor is a different story, no spare motors are supplied be ferrari therefore a replacement must be found, and mods as necc., (take the top off the Climate Control Housing and pull old fan out) or Ferrari sells the entire CC Unit as a whole for $3K-$4K plus instalation.

Follow previous instructions to check flap operation. Flap should be fully up or fully down.

JRV,
Thanks for the info so far. I have a 95 F355 with 6000 miles. I just purchased it and they did do some compressor work on it along with the major service. When I mentioned it to my advisor he said it was the motor and very expensive but not sure since ha has not seen it that often. When I activate my recycle system without the a/c on it makes the loud clunking noise but I do not see any thing moving. Then when I also turn on the a/c compressor it stops. How do I differentiate between the 2 and can I fix these myself?

Thanks
Clark

Pino, it's under the bonnet. Easy to check.

Open the bonnet, turn on the key, change the flap position via control buttons and go forward to watch & listen as flap changes positions.

when operating properly, the flap silenty and slowly moves for one position to the other. this flap being inop (remains open) has been the single most common problem I've seen for 348-TR-512TR-355 poor AC performance.

Hey JRV, where is this flap located? In the dash, or under the bonnet?
Thanks in advance,
Pino

I've fixed 50 of them at least on 348's-355's. Re-circ flaps crapping out is very common. How old is your service advisor ? does he shave yet?

They have several different problems, sometimes the motor (seems your motor is ok) other times the flap, the shaft, or the shaft plastic holders break. In every case a repair can be performed, you just need to determine which part is failing and devise a permanent fix. Might require a machine shop & a real mechanic, as Ferrari does not supply repair pieces.

When I activate the recycle button on my air conditioning system I get a loud clunking noise every 3-5 seconds. Anyone have any ideas? A call to my service advisor said it was a motor that is supposed to close a door and it is malfunctioning. He said he has never had to fix one, but thought it would be expensive. Any ideas on how to fix it?
